195lbs. 6’tall 7’0-7’4", 21" wide just fwd of center, 13.5" nose, 14.375" (1’ from) 4.5" (at) tail. 2.875"-3" thick. from a 7’4’R blank? and 7’6", 21.25"w, 15"n, 14.5"t, 3". 7’10"R blank What do ya think.? Any suggestions? Looking for something to kick around when the hurricanes come and a fun board with the 7’6". Going to drive down to Clark to pick up blanks tomorrow. Plus, if any of you Florida boys (or anyone)can help me out with a good rocker combo… many thanks JR
these are tough questions to answer for someone else, because for one thing i don’t know what you already own. and personal taste (like what turns you on about a particular shape) varies from one guy to the next. i’m only concerned that you might end up with near identical twins for your effort. personally, i’d be inclined to make your florida ‘typical stuff’ stick from the 7_4R, and make a longer, fun-gunnier board out of the 7_11R, say maybe a 7’10" with a somewhat narrower outline, and maybe put a pintail back there. that board may serve you well during a juicier winter groundswell (please!!!) and also as a travel board. the rockers on both blanks i think are quite contemporary and compatible with what you’re describing. i know that Noodle has a general rule about tail rocker being 3% of overall length, if you agree, you’ll have very little adjustment to make. again, this is only one guy’s opinion, and i don’t know what you already own. good luck with your decision.
. . I was just thinking a pin tail would be better for hurricane swell. How narrow would you say on the 7’10", i’m worried about floatation. I’ve got 6’10" fish that I can ride but floats me like crap, everything else is 8’+.
JR, i’d suggest you work on an outline template, on something disposable like cardboard or posterboard. you can start with a wide point of 20 1/2", a 13" nose and 13 1/2 tail. trust your judgement, and make modifications until you really like what you see. you know more than you think you know. you know?
