Big Sur 2017...

The Plaskett Creek get together might be washed out this year. Hwy 1 has taken extensive damage and is closed indefinitely. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/community/cambrian/article134263244.html

Hello Mr. Mellor, I was up at Ragged Point yesterday (2/22/17) at the southern closure. Talked to a couple of guys working on the new section where the road diverts inland a bit at the seal haul out. They say the new part will open way before the slide is fixed. It looks close to being paved. This happens every year we have rain as you well know. Still have not been up to see the new tunnel yet. More rain to come. Last two days the swell has been clean up here before the west winds kick up. Offshores at dawn and by 11:00 am victory at sea.

Tblank - does the new road allow you access north to plaskett?

Last year was a blast - I’d be pretty bummed if it didn’t happen this year.

As for the recent rain falls - we had a few big trees out back go down and took out the power line. We indoor camped for 4 days haha.

I’ve seen some pretty amazing surf over the last few weeks.

Last I heard there were no fewer than 6 separate slides plus pretty major bridge damage at Pfeiffer Canyon that Caltrans has declared unfixable… no bueno.

Motorists may now only travel south on State Route 1 from Carmel to just south of Palo Colorado in Monterey County and north from Cambria to Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County

We could always take over a Best Western or Motel 6 in Morro Bay or San Simeon. Have a Bon Fire at pico creek…try to get lucky with strange European women…

WideAWAKE, the new section only goes for a few miles and a couple of hundred yards inland to give more room to the coastal bluffs. No access north of Ragged. After reading the article in the Cambrian, it would really surprise me if they fixed that bridge before the end of summer. They may get to a single lane situation for north-south travel. S’Ray, about these strange European women…

No bueno!

Guess we’ll all just camp in chrisp’s yard and surf the rock…

Reservations 6 months in advance just like Plaskett. We’ll pick a date like always and do it. Not Big Sur but what ya gonna do…

CANSAS, perhaps? I’ve seen photo’s, it’s quite beautiful there. Good dining in Carmel too.

We all set up camp at Thraikill’s house. Get drunk, surf wind n Sea, pee in the wind and chase strange European women…

pee in the wind…not pee into the wind.

make hats at Jalama sounds good to me…

SOME PLACE AROUND MORRO ? OR REFUGIO/EL CAP. ?

I vote Jalama

good spot chrisp.

Another vote here for Jalama. Yes, the wind can be a problem, but Tarantulas is a really fun wave.

Jalama makes for an easy drive. I’m in.
