Bill Barnfield

Fro the same 1981 mag that had the Terry Martin Hobie ad. The center spread of that issue. Bill B at Pipeline. Photo was part of an article on Don King and his “new” approach to water shots.

As usual, the first post does not display an image attachment within the post.

So, here’s a followup.

One of my all time favorite photos is Barnfield at Pipe-

wow - those pictures speak volumes

Used to be the best surfers were also the best shapers.  That’s because they pushed the boards to the limits.  Back then 99% of the good surfers would if given a choice would take a Barnfield over a Merrick or Rusty shape.

coincidence, but i had just been looking up Tom Parrish…

I think Bill really transitioned well from mid length single fin pipe boards to the thruster.  My shaping guru and teacher would always set the bar beginning with Barnfield and work toward what Rawson was currently doing.  Hard to go wrong with that lineage during the mid 1990's.

Would love to order a 7'6" and watch Bill shape it.  Just keep quiet and learn.
