Bing Speed Square

3' 11"!!

"Inspired by his fond childhood memories on a Mach-77 boogie board, Bing team rider, Chris Del Moro convinced shaper, Matt Calvani to help him recapture the magic in this modern-day twin-finned version called the Speed Square. Because of its short length, Matt added belly in the nose with a quick transition into a hard, tapered rail in the tail so that the board would be quick and responsive.

"He added a deep straight concave that runs from where your front foot sits through the tail of the board to gain efficiency in glide and maintained thickness in the tail to improve glide and wave-catching ability.  The small twin keels maintain a “fin-less” riding quality but still allowing for some control.  Ride it short, ride it fast and get ready for a whole lot of fun!"

I just saw this on erbb (what does that even stand for?), wish I could still ride short boards, this looks so much fun!

I can remember years ago seeing little kids on Maui riding boogie boards, standup surfing them, and ripping.  Just a few weeks back I snapped some shots at South Jetty, and the locals were riding boogie boards, kinda half standing on one knee, Owl Chapman "hood ornament" style.

My current hws under construction is kind of an old fart's version, at 6'6" its very short for me, square tail and square nose to keep the width/volume throughout, step-deck for increased volume, quad fin setup.  No concave, 'tho, I went with flat bottom and v in the tail.

I had to add a bit more rocker, because under 7' and I'm usually taking off late and blowing the wave, so I'm hoping that'll help me.  Almost finished, can't wait to try it out, don't know if I'll even be able to ride it LOL.  My faithful 9'er is always ready, 'tho.

Inspired by this board from lovinlife

I actually started this project about a year and a half ago, then it got de-railed, and then I just kinda lost faith in the design.  Now that its finally nearing completion, I'm starting to get stoked on it again.  Then I just watched the Bing Speed Square video - it came at a good time to rekindle my stoke on the concept for my board (although Calvani took it to a whole new level, admittedly!).

Last week I took my 6' 3" fish converted to quad, just wasn't happening for me.  I need to play around with the fins a bit, but its one of those things that needs to be done when I can get some consecutive surf days.  Getting out twice a month doesn't cut it for fine-tuning anything!

huck that is a sweet little board.

what ya doing with the fins on that one Huck ?
I have a 4’2" little mini-simmonseque/ bellyboard to try atm, should be interesting, think the waves will need to be right for it and me but I am worried that it’ll lead me off on some different and bizzare design tangent…haha…whats new…( I’ll be standing up on the thing too )…

Sounds interesting / fun!  Hope you get some pics / video up.  I set this up for quad fins.  I can add a center fin later if I decide to go thruster.

Shaped this 4’6" er 2 years ago…Just got done with another one.

Amazing to me that guys can standup surf those little things - your squash or squish or whatever they are boards are more my speed - I love 'em!  Built any of those lately?  Love to see some pics!

I didnt ride the ittle one today, waves were wedgy head high shoreys so I rode my 5’3" dim-SIM instead, might wait for more suitable waves to trial the little slab I think…plus been outta the water for 1 week and today was only surf til Tuesday so wanted to squeeze as much stoke as I could out of it…I wanna ride this little thing and will post a report and a few pics of the board…you may have seen it already on other threads, its Cuttlefishs turtle board…

I am still down south. I built 2 boards in 3 months. Do not want to work too hard. I am doing some product testing comparisons…http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f303/obaceman/boards/8%20foot%20Balsa%20single%20fin/70d9e207.jpg. I will be giving a more complete test analysis when I get back to USA…

Why, are you testing Balsa somewhere tropical then?

Hope so for you!
