birth of a new surfboard deck cloth?

Just thought I would show you guys what we are working on.

Aussie made Nylextra Hybrid cloth 4oz Eglass / 3oz Nylextra thread designed to sit on the deck, Space in the middle of the cloth to either show the stringer off or lay carbon tape.

Nylextra thread running vertically through the cloth to spread the load through the footwell area and designed to wrap around the rails where you would normally get rail cancer.

So the cloth has blue lines on it where the super fiber begins and ends???

Not a super fibre, it is a fibre that has different strengths compared to fiberglass. Hopefully the tech guys like lemat might be able to chime in, but having hybrid cloth it will get best of both worlds.

Worked with the same fiberglass company which helped Hayden shapes with their carbon tape. And we are very happy with results - test panels look good. Will be giving to 2 board companies today to test commercially

Yes blue thread is where Nylextra finishes and starts.

Everysurfer - if you want pm me and I’ll send you enough for your next board if you help pay for postage. As this would be similar to your last board but strands woven in to a cloth.

Is it clear?

Or is it milky like most nylon based products?

P.m. gladly sent!

Hey Sanded

you still selling this stuff too?

I’m more interested in this that the external skin layer

I bought some nylon liner from the fabric store but it seems too thin compared to this stuff

Hey Barry
Its clear I have lam’ed up some samples and very clear! Sands without fuzz as it’s thinner than the glass.

Thanks i will reply tonight when I get home.
Cheers

Hey Oneula

Sure do! Yes fabric store stuff isn’t the best!
Let me know how much you need and where to ship and we will work it out.
But only have blue or yellow left until next delivery

Hey Oneula,

Let me know if you order some, I will go in. I also want to order some nylextra, and can split shipping.

Thanks,

Jason

Sanded

can you PM me the pricing for both the cloth and bulk layer?

I wanna try my hands at making a Coil-esque compsand…

Jason I’ll let you know when I get the quotes

can’t be anymore expensive than S cloth/texalium/carbon fiber at FGH.(i’m hoping)

mahalo

oh yea I’m been using that fabric store stuff as an underlayer for my wood skins

these posts get me stoked. new cloths, unique constructions. oneula using mesh under wood skins. it’s all so interesting. can’t wait to see builds w/ the new fabric.

@sanded, is this fabric intended for vacuum bag scenarios or can it be hand-lam’d too?

the nylon mesh under wood idea is from Huie (surface area adhesion since epoxy is a mechanical bond)

when Huie/Mike/BB20 talk or do a show n tell

you’all should listen up good

Silly/Sabs/Bert used to through us a bone or two

but the current was too strong and they drifted away

meanwhile we have ambrose to keep us on course

Oneula

I’ll send you a pm

Gordof

Yes hand lam are fine. I did some test panels wrapping around a 90 degree angle. I’ll put some pics up over the weekend

Cool, thanks !

Just had a chance to take photos of the test panels

As you can see no issues around corners

The white fibre came out clear

PS: Thanks to guys for all the PM’s I’m slowly getting through them all so if I havent responded to you yet with quotes I will in the next few days

Ok the snap test - snapped the panel and kept folding back and forward until all the fibreglass had snapped through and only left was the nylextra, kept on folding for another 20 folds and still couldn’t break the nylextra thread.

In the 2nd pic you can clearly see the left hand side of the blue thread the fibreglass has given way where it was only fiberglass and the right hand side of the blue line is where the nylextra thread is

just a quick update

Ran into a team rider from PD’s with my product on it!

He said that he usually goes through a board every month, usually cracks around carbon taping then snaps. He was liking the flex performance in this new board! His quote “I’ll be asking them to put this on all my boards!”

Sande,

I’m liking the testing of this product.

So many don’t take the time to fully investigate wether some new product will actually be useful or not.

Anxious to see and hear more reports.

I would like to try some in conjunction with some of my flex experiments.

The green mesh looks like the stuff I use for resin infusion distribution. Is that what it is? Surely leaving that in a laminate stask adds weight (lots of voids full of resin) and possible delam start point. Just asking?
