I finished most of the top rails, going with a 60/40 rail. However, when Kensurf stated that “hard rails at fins through the tail” a few questions came up. After reviewing the archives for a couple hours I couldn’t find anything. First off my board will be a 5’6x20x2.75 Biscuit, modeled after a CI Biscuit, with a Probox Quad setup. Does anybody have any fin placement dimensions for a similar board they may be willing to share? Also, to make a hard rail would I mark a line 1 inch in from the rails and grind away to form the rails. Lastly, to form my top rails I marked lines 1-2-3 inches away from the rails and grinded away.Do I do the same for the bottom rails? Thanks alot for the help, sorry for all the questions I have looked in the archives for a long time and haven’t found anything, and I need to get this board completely done and glassed by the end of the month. Thanks
The CI Biscuit has 60/40 rails but they still hold alot of volume so kinda down, but not knifey at all.
fat & down, bruddah…
Ok so I started the rails. I wanted a 60/40 and I really hope I did it right. I marked lines 1-2-3 inches from the rail and grinded away to the 60 percent marks I made. This is the top rail. Also, do I run the 60/40 all the way through the board or do I change it about a foot from the nose and tail. Thanks for the input.
60/40 All the way to the nose
Hard at the fins through the tail

The top rail box should be 12" from the tail to the Back of the Box. I think 1 1/4" off the rail is better, remember you can change the cant out to work the fins off the rail. But it’s hard to control the fin adjustment if you are to close to the rail. Just a thought snap 10, your call.
The bottom rail box should be 7" from the tail to the BACK of the box. With a spread between the boxes of 3/4", from the back of the front box to the front of the rear box. This is important spacing to allow this board to go into a Twinzer mode if needed. If the boxes are to far apart in a Quad the board rides great front side and has alot of forward drive. But the same board will be hard to ride backside and hard to recover out of a cutback This is why ProBox is great in a Quad world because it has the smallest foot print in the boards compared to other systems except for the Plug systems.
Another thing to remember is that rear fins should be parallel with front fins. To many people have the rear fins parallel to the stringer, this also makes the board hard to ride backside and hard to recover from a cutback. Quads work together has 4 fins! Far apart they become 2 different fin functions.
ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: If you add a center 10" box to a Quad cluster, the whole Quad cluster will move forward.
Hope this helps you out snap 10. The CI biscuit is also a favorite board style of mine.

Snap 10, Here’s a retro fit I did to a board awhile back. This board went from a Tri fin to a Quad, Twinzer,Fish and Tri combo. Notice the spacing of the ProBoxes over the other system, which in this case was Future.

wow, that helped me out so much, I will use those measurements for my quad, the pictures were very helpful. Thanks so much

snap 10, You are very welcome. I enjoy sharing knowledge and answers to questions. The more people know, the better their surfing experince becomes and their understanding of their equipment.
Below is a pic showing the use of a 10" center box with a Quad cluster.

Larry,
Why does the 10" center box move the quad cluster forward, and how much forward? How does the placement for the quad cluster at 12" and 7" differ as a board gets longer, say for a 6’6" instead of a 5’6", or does the adjustability of the Probox system account for that?
Well heres my version of a quad setup with dims that Pro-Box Larry gave me. I toed-in the fins 1/4" by measuring 1/4" to the left or right and drawing lines to create a diagonal line. I hope I did that right. Anyway, heres a picture.
hi Larry, im in with Jonah on this one, im in process of ordering some boxes from Robin for the board in my other thread and id like to know more about the theory behind the placement. i have the measurements Robin gave me for my last 8’10" quad and as my current project will be 8’6" i presume they wont be far different but if i can get my head around the theory i can stop asking as many questions! and i could also work out where my other boxes will go in the little 6’5" shortboard i made in the thread ‘first board order woohoo!’ recently. its the red one with the centre box that im keeping and i think its crying out for the extra boxes ive ordered from Robin!

hey Snap, what are the nose and tail widths on your biscuit??
