I’m getting ready to glue the stringers in a blank .I’m using 1LB.EPS Home Depot for the board .And 2" XPS blue from Lowes for center of stringer. Stringer is 1/8" plywood 2" XPS 1/8" plywood .I would like to have a black glue line.Has anyone ever mixed color in Elmers glue? If so what? Or any other glue? Thanks Gordon
Epoxy resin might work also.
Hi ~ I’m assuming that EPS is the same as PVA in the Uk, which is a water based wood glue that is thick and white in coulor.
When mixed with colour the white dilutes the colour so black would turn grey, if uses sparingly the glue dries clear leaving the balck solid but this will be patch and the distribution is hard to control.
a better effect can be acheived by dyeing a thin sheet of veneer or using a dark veneer (about 0.3 - 0.5 mm) and sandwiching it between the 2 half of your stinger.
Like LeeDD said, use epoxy resin with tint. That sounds like a really cool stringer effect! Nice use of available materials!
