Search the archives, this topic came up a few months ago. I can’t tell you for sure what the lucky bastards exact procedure is but I can tell you a procedure that will get you pretty close to that look. 1.) Laminate with the desired base color. 2.) Use a sponge roller for a thin clear fill coat. 3.) Hotcoat the board in black (make sure you mix enough resin to cover the board well). 4.) Sand through hotcoat until you get the desired look. 5.) Get as much sanding dust off your board. 6.) Finish with another hotcoat. I did this with a orange hotcoat instead of black and it was an absolute mess so make sure you don’t contaminate anything with the black fiberglass dust.

thanks,  yes think i would be in trouble if i skipped step 2!!!  much appreciated

Ryan, your fill coat in step 2, is that a waxed or unwaxed resin you are using?

Reson being I dont want to sand the clear if its really thin, then have to do a black over the top then sand that too!

If its a thin lam resin with a black pigmented filler over the top makes much more sense to me or am I on the wrong track here???

here’s what it came out looking like.  a bit heavy w/ two hotcoats but not too bad

looks good! i did one a while back, it was my take on a rabbits foot by lovelace. about to do a few more soon.
