I’m in a beginner blacksmithing class at school and have a couple assignments coming up. The first is to make two of something; say a pair of tongs or knives or whatever. For a final project we can do anything we want. I also design and make my own boards. My hope is to make something in blacksmithing that I could use for surfboard design, somthing that would be functional. It cannot be too complicated as I am a novice. I’m stumped; any suggestions? Thanks- Bones
shaping racks
How about a pair of dividers. or iron calipers.
How about forging some high carbon steel and making your own plane blades? My family did it for a living 400 years ago.
How about something to subtly snip the kook cord on the drop in who’s slowing you down while manically doing everything he can to make it look hard to ride the wave.
…How about a set hammer forged fins? …I could use some new barrels for my…oh yeah, surfing…a pair of heavy duty sissors.Herb
What can a smithy make for surfing? maybe you could make some custom roof racks for your car… or a tool rack (lots of hooks on a bar) for the wall of your shaping bay… Or, if you do enough glassing to buy by the roll, something like a giant paper towel holder to hang your roll of fiberglass on, so it pulls off right over your glassing racks. That would be prettty easy, I’d think. A couple of brackets to screw to the wall w/ U-bends in the end, and a crossbar.
Many thanks for the ideas! Bones
