Blair Foam---anybody know???

Juss wunderin’ if any y’all tried this fancy foam out yet. I dun’ skinned a 9’9 bottom

tonight an’ it seems just fine. Dang thing is hard as a rock I tell ya. Clean cuts

at a high pace WITH completely rusty blades. (don’t ask)

SO; Who knows the BLAIR-------------?

Good stuff. Full passes, fast as you want, no tears!! Great service and spot on rocker, now owns Green Valley Mills. A sure bet to be a leader.

morghead,

Blair Foam is owned and run by Jeff Stoner and Beau Brown both good peoples they have helped many shapers in my area not only with foam development but actually adopting a few shapers from the area that have fallen on hard times. Both are hardcore surfers and good endurance paddlers Jeff himself is an excellent shaper his father was owner and shaper of Rick Surfboard from back in the days. Jeff has won the Catalina Classic along with a few others paddling his shapes. Who woulda thought a blank mfgr run by someone that has 2nd generation shaping experience. lol…

The company is an offspring of a second generation plastics manufacturing that Beau runs with his dad. These guys know plastics and differing processes and compounds. I’m glad more guys are getting some of this foam. Distribution isn’t a main priority for them at this point and they don’t seem to be in a hurry to hype the stuff instead concentrating on dialing in the formula. I can say that they now have a great formula and it should become very popular by the quality of foam. It’s been a great experience designing and working with them on a few blank plugs. In fact I helped design the 99 plug with Jeff, it seems to be good plug, slightly on the thin for machine, and definitely need a rocker temp if you need to shape close to blank thickness

I have been using pretty much exclusively for awhile now. The foam shapes great and the guys have been stoked on the performance of the foam. Hard to explain the consistency and shapeability of the foam, crispy like Walker with out the resin absorbing properties and sugar cube like quality it’s most certainly is unique. The foam has excellent flex and snappiness, seems to have all the best properties from all the differing mfgrs.

Paulo and his son Gino are the main guys on the floor, both are very quality oriented and always have an ear on always improving. I have worked with Paulo with dialing in rockers and he has always been spot on. Paulo has worked with Clark for many years before Clarks closure and is familiar with the processes Clark used and they have made many improvements.

I can highly recommend the foam, if you get a chance to snag one give it a try. If anyone is interested I also distribute the foam. Just pm me and I’ll get back to you.

it going. Nice to have some durable foam out there. No mas gummy sponge poo…

I’m interested in trying some. Do you have any info on the blank sizes that are available? Prices?

Hi Bill,

What size board are you looking to shape? The catalogue isn’t upto date and there are more moulds and plugs in the works. Let me know and I can recommend one for you.

Wayne

Wayne,

I’m looking to have a finished board in the 8’ 2’‘/ 8’ 4’’ range, 3 1/2’’ thick, 23’’ wide. Whatcha got?

Bill,

I was just up at Blair they have a new plug in the works and should be up in awhile, not sure exactly when. It seems like things are picking up there so not sure when they would have time to build another mould but the plug is ready. For all my mids Paulo has been shimming the 9-5 moulds and they have been working out great with custom rockers.

If you have a custom rocker I can have them build you a mid size blank to your rocker specs from a shimmed 9-5.

Let me know if this will work out for you. No worries of overshaping into butter foam the stuff is solid.

W.
