Blank question!?

Hey, for my 1st board, I want to shape about a 6’3" shortboard, it will be used in about waist high surf, but occasional overhead, so I DON’T want a fish. Or, do you guys think that it would be easier to start my shaping off with something like a 7’0" to 7’4" funboard?(i’m not gonna be using any power tools, because i don’t have the money right n0w). But anyway on with my main question, there are so many friggin blanks to choose that i don’t know what I need. So…if i were to shape the 6’3" I was told that It is best to get a 6’7" blank and cut two inches off of each end, is this correct, and what do all the numbers and stuff mean, ex. like when it says H and R in the blank description. Also, what is natural rocker and contemp. rocker? I know that the mesurment(1/8 3/16) is the stringer, but what size is good for me?Ok one last question, what is the difference between superblue, supergreen, etc.

SORRY if these are stupid questions, I finally figured out the shaping/glassing process and now I have no idea about what blank I need to order, thanks for bearing with me.

                                                                              BUKKY

Bukk,

Buy a blank that is closest in length, width, and thickness to the board you are going to shape. You want the blank to be a few inches longer than the board, in general. The H and R refer to the shaper that designed the blank. Example, R is for Rusty. Natural rocker is the usual rocker the manufacturer puts on the blank. The rocker numbers can be found in the Clark catolog. The Clark catolog can be found online. Superblue and supergreen refer to the densities of the blanks. Supergreen is denser and a bit heavier than superblue. Superblue is probably a good choice. Mike

Hey wassup Bukk; I’m still learnng about avatars. For all hand shaping of a shortboard try the 6 4R probably superblue and 1/8 stringer, I’ve shaped thousands of these (with power tools). I saw a guy on this site who shaped using a SUPER sharpened hand plane and did a killer job. With that blank you will get close to a good thing rather quickly and you won’t have to re-structure the foil as with the 6 5R or 6 3R or 6 3H. Email me if you like and I can give you further detailed advice on changing the rocker and other features to make that thing go well. Good Luck.

Hey, Plus one, check your pm. I couldn’t find your email so I sent you mine in the pm. thanks
