blank selection

Whats a good blank to use to get something fish-like. Looking at around 5’8"x 20"x 2 1/2" with a decent sized swallow. You guys know the things I’m talking about, I’ve hundreds on this site. Thanks

check out the 6’2"C blank.

depending on how wide the nose and tail are, 6’2c or a 6’0r. sorry, my shift key on my keyboard is dead.

use the 7’3"C funboard blank, its flatter and faster.

wOW, isn’t that abit overkill for a 5’8" fish? talk about over shaping a blank!

The 7’3" is not overkill if you are going retro…if you are looking for a modernnotreallyafish …then the 6’2s would be the call…imho…

As you can tell from the previous responses, surfboard building tastes and requirements vary greatly from one surfer to the next. Your best bet will be to follow the link below and check out the Clark Foam catalog. There you will find several of their blanks listed with all the specs including overall bottom length, max width and thickness for each one. Also, it has the “History” and “Shapers Comments” which explain for the most part, why the blank was originally designed and what it should be used for. Good luck and if you have any further questions about blank choices, use the link below to contact Foam E-Z. http://www.foamez.com/cf/catalog.cfm?cat=1

The 6-2 C is wide enough and thick enough for what you are looking for.

The real question here is; what is a fish? If your looking to make a thick, fat, retro keel fin type fish get a flat blank, a blank that you can cut a flater section from. If your looking to make a modern fish, thinner, flipped nose, tailer fin, etc then a modern fish blank would work.

instead of taking a chance of compromising quality by overshaping a 7’3", why not just have Clark glue up a custom rocker into the 62C?

you people sure make things complicated. 6’2 c or a 6’0 r for pete’s sake.
