I just picked up a 6’3 Teccel blank today. Seems to already have single concave running through it. Whats that all about? It’s only my 3rd blank, but i’ve never noticed anything like that before…
gee, bit of a bummer if you where planning to shape a different contour into the bottom…
it can be fixed, but i’m curious the same.
It’s one of two things.
Could be by design, as 90% of the boards to be shaped from that blank will have concave.
Could be ‘‘cupping’’ from the stringer glue-up.
Mike
so true. that is why I like to put my own stringers in. or no stringer.
sucks. looks like i’ll just plane down those edges first.
i don’t know how i missed it when i was checking it out at the warehouse.
…there s some plugs that have concaves
yes the 63M has
start with flat bottom then single concave then flat
if you dont want that, pass the planer 2 times near the rails then 2 more passes beside these ones
no more concave
I thought I read in one of the blanks catalogs that the concave already in the blank somehow aids with machine shaping.
I’ll see if I can hunt it down…
