Block to Boards project!

So after making a few boards decided to buy a block of 2 lb EPS from a local foam supplier here in Florida. Got a block that I have dubbed the Big Damn Block of Foam or "BDBF". It measured in at 8' x 4' x 3'. I quesstimate that I can make about 17 blanks from this block. I yield one and a half blanks for each cut so thats three blanks per two cuts. I did my research here on Sways and all the good people who have contributed to my success I thank you! Made a large hotwire bow and with the help of my wife got after it. I have made several rocker templetes from the catalog on the US Blanks website and used a fishing pole to bend the curves. My choice of pole was the Ugly Stick and it bends one hell of a curve! First board was a 6'4 round pin that I took to Nicaragua with me and it went great! My next project from the BDBF was a surprise gift for a friend who has helped me on numerous occasions. This friend is well off so to speak and trying to buy something as a thank you for someone who has the ability to buy what ever they want is difficult but the love the surfing is there with him and what better than a custom surfboard that floats his large ass! He is 6'2 and 290 lbs! I decided to make hime a Big Guy fish that measured out at 8' x 24 1/4" x 3.5" thick. It floats and paddles him like a dream. He actually just got a new longboard and says it paddles and surfs way better! So This big guy fish is my first cutlap and color and anything bigger than the 6'4, I think it came out great but cant wait to hear ghettorat tear me a new one in fact I have been anxious to post just to hear it!!!HAHAHA!! Got a lot of photos for everyone but gotta post in multiple posts it got lost when I tried a few minutes ago??? I wanna thank Wooody who posts on here for the templete he sent me it was great but a little to narrow for this guy I built for so I got the ugly stick out and bent a curve till I was happy and gotta say I think I'm gonna do all my templetes like this I just hate the idea of using other peoples work for some reason. I think it gives a little connection to the old way of doing things. Hell I feel like I just made cookies from scratch with the BDBF and I ques I did! Enough of my banter heres the pics of my #'s 4 and 5! Enjoy.

I guesstimate that I can make about 17 blanks from this block. It yields one and a half blanks per cut, or three blanks per two cuts.

Made a large hotwire bow, and with the help of my wife, got after it. I have made several rocker templates from the catalog on the US Blanks website using a fishing pole to bend the curves. My choice of pole was the Ugly Stick - it bends one hell of a curve!

First board was a 6'4" round pin that I took to Nicaragua with me, and it went great!

My next project from the BDBF was a surprise gift for a friend who has helped me on numerous occasions. This friend is well off, so to speak, and trying to buy a thank-you gift for someone who can afford whatever they want is difficult - but he loves surfing, so what could be better than a custom surfboard that floats his large ass? He is 6'2 and 290 lbs!

I decided to make him a Big Guy fish that measured out at 8' x 24 1/4" x 3.5" thick. It floats and paddles him like a dream. I wanna thank Woody (who posts on here) for the template he sent me, it was great but a little too narrow for this guy, so I got the ugly stick out and bent a curve till I was happy.

I gotta say, I think I'm gonna do all my templates like this. I just hate the idea of using other people's work, for some reason. I think drawing your own template gives a little connection to the old way of doing things. Hell, I feel like I just made cookies from scratch with the BDBF - and I guess I did!

Enough of my banter, heres the pics of my #'s 4 and 5! Enjoy.

OK, embedded the pics per your request, and went ahead and edited / added paragraph breaks at no extra charge =). - Huck

Well dang thanks Huck maybe we need to nominate you the unofficial English Professor!

That was fun to watch.  Thanks for putting that together!

Great Job Ryan!

You are welcome as well! Hope to see you in August! Maybe we can catch a few at Sunglow or Ponce!

Woody

Oh its on for sure Woody! Plus we gotta load you up some EPS! Maybe two big blocks why not!

Forgot the pic of the bottom of the Big Guy fish my first swirl!

I gotta say Ryan, this one is a real stoker. This is what it's all about. Real board building. Drawing your own curves, cutting your own rockers, making your own blanks. Seeing it through; glassing, finning, polishing. Onya for that!

ps. Don't worry about the big bad ol' GRat. When he is barking, he's usually right on and I really don't think he bites.

KEEP GOING!!

Tblank thanks for the kind words it’s turned into a monster labor of love! Oh and I’m not worried about the Rat I just love to hear his tell it like it is demeanor! And yes he is right on when he does speak up! Love reading his posts! Got two more boards in the works!
