Blush

I am glassing my first wood SUP using epoxy resin and after sanding the first fill coat on the top there were some spots that were white and hazy. I made a poor assumption that they would disappear after applying my second coat of resin and went ahead and applied another fill coat and now I have these great looking cloudy spots(mostly around the rails) where I believe it must have been amine blush. What are my options? Sand it out? Live with it?

Thanks for any help on this.

Hank

Hank,

Most hazy, cloudy spots are caused by over working the resin.

Introducing too much air to the resin.

Darker boards show more.

Sometimes too much humidity will cause it as well.

Bummer.

I’ve found mixing a bit too much resin for darker boards helps.

Easier to wet out board in general.

Could be sanded off, but that would just cause more issues.

Warm board, warm room, warm resin.

If if was blush second coat will not stay, sand all clean and recoat. Blush is more often like a grease film but it can be a solid like a powder stick on surface. In both case water and scotch brit dissolve it. But Barry is right over working cold (thick) époxy product cloud of bubble, not a big problem just an oversea production look lol.

Thanks Barry, makes sense, appreciate the response.

Also agree on overworking. I’ve had things cloud up on me because I touched a hotcoat too late into the process. It was nice and clear until I took a brush to it, at which point it immediately clouded up and stayed that way.
