Board #0001 ?

Well, I sort of finished my first board in 20 years. The gloss resin really took off once it started to gel and I was able to get the board wet sanded to 400. I may or may not buff it out. It looks pretty good the way it is and the imperfections don’t seem to show too much.

Technically, this is board #0003.5. In 1985 I built two and a half boards. None of them were very [any] good and my instruction usually came after beer #3 or 4 or 5, late in the evening. My friends at the time told me they knew what they were doing, but I’m pretty sure they were, and probably still are clueless.

My only regret is that I didn’t put an "Swaylocks Inspired’ lam on the board. Tel est la vie.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Scott [gunkie]

PS [edit] – Dimensions, 5’10" x 22.5" [4.5"+ center] x 2.625". Nose = 19", Tail = 14.75" [was supposed to be wider, but my 3 year-old son hit it with a file trying to help me out]. I made it out of a Clark 6’2"C blank [=Blue]. Glassing: 6oz bottom, 2 x 6oz deck. Fins: stock twins from Foam EZ. Done without any power tools.

Howzit gunkie, No need to buff the board, maybe the bottom and rails but the deck is going to get waxed anyways, every so often I get requests for a sanded gloss finish. Aloha,Kokua

Great looking board with interesting lines. It looks like the wide point is very far forward. How does it ride? What type of waves is it designed for?

a twin fin “stubbie” .

Very interesting . Very interesting indeed [uh oh …chippy’s brain is ticking …

I’d love to hear how it rides mate , and see a rocker profile / fin template photo [hint hint]

cheers !

…it looks like it would be fun to ride , to me…

Hi Gunkie! Your board’s outline immediately rang a bell somewhere in the back of my mind and I came up with that:

Was there any influence, consciously or not? I admit that yours may be a little less “extreme”, but still those outlines seem to have things in common…

Great job, BTW, I do like it. Should be a fast little beach-break board.

How does it ride?

Well, it floats me [@~85kg/188lbs] pretty well in a pool  I hope to get out one of these mornings if the waves get decent; considering that my boss is on vacation this week, this would be a great opportunity to check it out. I will certainly post a ride report.

Attached are images of the foil and fin detail. Please pardon the bumpy fin surface. I still need to 120/220/320/&400 wet sand the surface. I left as much foam as possible in it so it will float me OK.

Thanks!

Thanks! As a part-time kneeboarder, I’ve thought a lot about that Bunker image. Maybe, subconsciously, I projected that shape onto the board I’m finishing up now. The board I built is specifically built for beach break waves less than 2m/6’. If it gets heavier, I can use it as a kneeboard.

…thanks for those , “gunkie” !

What is the base and depth measurement and rake on those twinnies, please ? (They look similar to some fcs kneeboard fins I have …)
