Board #3 (bonzer experiment)

been spending the last few days on this board, almost done glassing it now…its a semi replica of the "Bonza’ board thats floated around swaylocks, scaled down and modified a little bit, but same idea.

6’ x 19 3/4" x 2 3/4"

concaves on bottom are just under 1/2" deep between the keels (not glassed on yet in the photos).

glassing is as follows: bottom-6oz, top 7.5 oz w/a 4oz patch.

its the third board ive done, and its a pretty big challenge, but all the work is always rewarding…glassing the fins on has so far been the hardest part.

well, here she is!

it’s gunna be a bonzer 3 right?

Looks great!

same colour scheme too!!

you like a challenge , obviously .

Wood core , or solid fibreglass runners ? …same dimensions as in that article ?

I can’t wait to hear how it rides .

Did you mix a coupla batches of resin , to allow extra time for glassing the “hourglass” [concaves] ?

catchya !

ben

the fins are all blue tinted, full glass…2 3/4" tall, 9" long.

the board is scaled down a few inches, i think the article one is a 6’2"?

the only part that was hard about lamming the concaves was that i didnt allow for enough cloth to wrap into them when fully let into the bottom of the curve, so when i went to wet out the second side, it pulled too tightly and i had to lift the glass from the rails and redo it…i was using UV resin though, so i had enough working time to get it all to my liking.

good stuff …it will be good to see it with the fins on , and hear how it rides .

cheers !

ben

[I must dig out those dimensions of <span style=“font-style:italic”><span style=“text-decoration:underline”>this</span></span> one again …]

14 1/2 x 6’3 1/2 x 20 x 13 1/2 x 2 5/8

fin : - 6" base, 8" depth [trailing edge 6" up from tail]

keels : - 9 " base

the measurements from the file became invaluable, tomorrow is the last day of construction!

that’s alot of fin for that board…

i did compensate on the fins for the smaller dimensions of the board, the fin is (if i remember correctly) about 7" high, and i cant remember the base, the runners are still 9" long, but are about 2 3/4" tall.
