Anyone know where i can get a heat reflective material by the yard to be used for a custom board bag?
Try Mcmaster-Carr (.com),
they have everything else for the industial minded.
Good luck and post if you find some.
Dudley, Tek Supply http://www.teksupply.com has several materials that might be suitable, including some that incorporate 1 o 2 layers of bubble wrap that might server as the padding as well.

Sam, which specific fabrics on teksupply were you speaking of?
I was actually thinking more along the lines of TekFoil, either Foil-Bubble-White Poly (http://www.teksupply.com/farm/supplies/prod1;Copy+of+Copy+of+10f1c57b;7fa5ed7b.html) or Foil-Bubble-Foil (http://www.teksupply.com/farm/supplies/prod1;Copy+of+Copy+of+10f1c57b;956af1a4.html). However, with either of those, you might need an outside “envelope” that is more abrasion resistant (but I think glued up Tyvek wold be a cheap, quick, and easy solution to the issue).

Never mind. I was going to say that I’ve made a few board bags and in the process learned to sew, then came to the conclusion that the prices they charged for comercial bags weren’t so bad. But I’m not going to say that. This is Swaylocks so I hope you find great material and make a fantastic bag.
I think i found a winner. Once again, Dale Solomonson has shown me the correct path.
“The manufacturer of this material cannot offer any suggested uses for it. If you can come up with an original use and allow us to post it on the website, we’ll give you $5 bucks off.”
Next question is, WHY produce a material that you can’t figure out what to use it for???
Jong, you’re right about the prices for bags vs. the cost/hassle of building a custom, problem is, no one in the world makes a bag suited to my flexspoon kneeboard. I wanted to go with the santa monica surfcase for bombproof durability, but with a 10.5" flexfin, it’s just not gonna fit. custom is the only way to go.
Thanks for the input guys.
If you’re looking for the foil/bubble material, any heating and cooling supply should have it. My local Lowes also carries it in 16" and 24" widths. If memory serves me correctly the 24"x50’(?) is about $30, but don’t hold me to the price.
A dirt cheap temporary board bag can be made with the foil/bubble sheet insulation material and aluminum duct tape. “Temporary” because these materials are made for heating and cooling wrap- not the toughness of board bags. The bubbles are easily popped, the foil tears, delaminates, etc.
“Flexfoil” is one common brand:
