Board Bag Recommendation for Fish?

Can anyone recommend a zippered padded day bag that will accommodate a classic style fish? I picked up a beaut of a KG fish the other day - it’s 5’7”, and about 22” at the widest point (too wide for the bag I have now). I know I could stuff it in a longboard bag, but would prefer something that more closely matches the length of the board. I also know that I could make my own, but I don’t really have the spare time right now. . .

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I could never find a bag for my twin fin either. Someone (Lee?) recommended a windsurfer bag because they have the width, but I don’t know how short they are. With all the fish out there these days, someone must make a short but wide bag…

just roll it in newspaper.

What you need is a kneeboard bag. In general kneeboards (not just Fish) are short (under 6’) and wide (21"-23"). So pretty much any kneeboard bag will accomodate you fish. www.ksusa.org has links to quite a few good kneeboard manufacturer sites where you could find what you need.

I’ve got 6’0 & 6’6 custom day bags for retro fishes in stock. 1/4" padding, wide tail zippered entry. No fin slots, but glass on keels fit nice, safe and cozy inside. They’re $65 + tax. Call me and/or email for more info.

Destination Surf makes great fish bags they don’t have them on their site but I’m pretty sure they start at 5’6" on up they also mke the 6’6" hotdoggy bag that is round at both ends. They are based in San Diego and know their fish just give them a call.dsurf.com/bags_main.html

I don’t think this is exactly what you are looking for but this lady makes really nice custom board bags. I bought one for my 6’0 fish a while back and am really happy with it. It’s way thicker than the typical bags they sell in surf shops and the prices are reasonable.

I’ve got a few board socks from the Board Sock lady in Florida. Nice heavy, mexican blanket material custom fitted based on your measurments. Around $30 and you’ll get it in about a week. I’m happy with mine.

I use a gunny sack to put my fish in.

After a few trips I toss them due to retch caused by rotten fish parts.Herb

Dean Cleary in South Bay sells on line KB bags about $50. Thay silvery sun reflecting stuff. Big zip and good padding. Not enuf for shipping but great all around proteciton.
