Board for Oahu Summer South Shore?

We’ve already made my 12-year old son for in and around Waikiki for this summer:

5’8" fish a la Steve Brom

6’2" thruster a la CI Mongrel

9’0" longboard a la Takayama NR-2 noserider

What about a single fin a la CI Rob Machado? Any ideas? He’s a solid intermediate. I’d also think a Bonzer though the Fish kinda hits that already.

220

Three and counting for a 12-yo? How much is enough?

Considering he can’t drive to the water yet, what’s the point of all these? How often do you (both) surf?

Hmmm, envious I am.

Geez, 3 boards already made and $80 each to ship to Oahu, and one more coming?

With fish and tri, he’s got Kaisers and AlaMo covered, so now we’re talking cruiser log waves in addition to the log.

Sure, a RM EW is nice to have, but the one’s I’ve seen don’t really look all that different than anything else offered in the line (short glance).

I mostly stayed on Oahu down by Kahala, and DH was surfed about 4 days a week, early. Sometimes, it gets solid overhead in the summer, and I mean overhead for the locals, most sitting around watching. So maybe a mini gun, like a 6’10" x 18", which is also handy for Westside on bigger swells.

Well, he designs and shapes them and is getting pretty good at glassing too. How much is enough? I think I can speak for everyone - there’s never enough.

He surfs maybe 4 days a week in winter and almost everyday in summer. Me? Only when it’s warm water and a Heine waiting for me

Double board bag under 9’ is $80 each way, maybe squeeze a trip or a quad for the same price. Longer boards are the problem. yeah, we’ll hit Bowls move over to Pops, then head down Queen’s and DH way.

Watch out that some airlines, notably United, make you open the bags and actually count the boards inside. Sometimes, their curbside agent’s don’t take boardbags, or anything oversized.

Good luck. My crowd escape was MagicIsland, shifty beachbreak, but not as crowded.

Last summer we got away with a 9’0" double, even with inspection. yeah, no more curbside checkin …ever. I was thinking about bringing some long boards and then just selling them on the beach right b4 return!
