Caption reads: Buddy Boy edging up-face at Maalaea, mid 60’s…
Any idea about the board he’s riding?:

My best guess, and a guess only, is that it is a Weber. Some island guys from that era may know who he rode for.
This is a calculated guess…hearing how Brewer talked highly of Buddy Boy, it could possibly be one of his. Judging from the shape (which to me appears to be circa. '68-'69), it could as well be a backyard shape from anyone of the many hacking out spacesticks in that era.
pau…aloha and mahalo!
Oneula,
It was true that Brewer’s Lahaina Surf Designs, LSD for short, was funded by the local Head of the Syndicate. His name was Takeo, since “retired”, even though he did get arrested at a cock fight a few years back. The Westside of Maui, was pretty much the Wild West in those day’s, with only two Maui Police Officers assigned to the entire Lahaina side of the Island.
It was quite an experience, being a young Lahaina Rat, and having the Brewer “Circus” come to town.
Buddy Boy was an exceptionally talented surfer, with a very sad conclusion to his life, as did many of the Boy’s from those days.
Wow. thanks for the info guys.
