I hesitate somewhat to post this because the board is a popout but I have no clue as to what is going on, never experienced anything like this. It’s a Haydem Hypto Krypto. Have had it out five times. Today, I’m sitting in the lineup and I hear this crackling sound exactly like “Pop Rocks” candy, if you’re familiar with that. It persists and seems to emanate from the board! I slide off and put it up to my ear, and sure enough, it’s coming from within. I’ve gone over the board very carefully, and there are no cracks, crunches or issues around the fin boxes. Board is solid. Does anyone have an idea regarding this or have had a similar experience?
And no, it’s not communicating with cetaceans as far as I can tell.
That is exactly the sound I was hearing. Makes sense. When I was on the beach, I put my ear to the board again and it amplified the sound of the waves, almost sounded like “hearing the ocean” in a conch shell. This board somehow amplifies and transmits the sounds from the water. I’ll have to duck my head under just to take a listen tomorrow. Snapping shrimp. Amazing.
I think what you are hearing is a change in internal air pressure. If, as I think, the foam is EPS.
It is because of the Black CF rails generating heat which transits the White Styrene core in conjuction with cold water that sets up an audable vibration.
I am informed Styrene foam is about 80% air. When you encapsulate air within an egg shell, should we expect it NOT to get excited about changes in it’s external enviroment?
Disclaimer! If the core of these boards are PU please disregard this post and kindly regard my 2nd alternative is your long dead relatives are attempting to get in touch with you. ;)
Generally, when I frat like a horse in the surf…I too blame my board, the weather, the snapping shrimp or any other innocent crustacean I can think of at that time…
