First time here.  I am trying to repair my windsurfing board. I want to laminate divinyl foam to the damaged area and I am wondering if the shape of the foam should be the same as the damaged area or overlapped.  I found conflicting information on different websites.   I was planning to feather out the edges of the deck and overlap it with glass and divinyl foam (both bigger than the affected area)

I think that the lap joint will be stronger than the butt joint. 

Please advise

I consider her #1 authority and follow her recommendations … but on other hand, here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c_FW_cfQfM fiberglass.hawaii shows that butt joint is acceptable.
