Board storage (hot garage/shed)?

How bad is it to store a board, in a board bag, in a garage or shed that’s prone to summer heat?

What can or will happen?

dunno if it was due to heat but, I had a board twist pretty bad on me in a warm shed.

I had the same experience as ChrisP, kinda ruined one of my most treasured boards.

If you don’t store your board on a level rack, the heat will cause the twist. As Chris and Huck found out the hard way. Your board can de-lam as well in excessive heat. If the board is laying on a twisted mount, it will conform to it in time and sooner in real heat. I know some have been sucessful in working twist out with counter weights and time but nothing is guaranteed.

How hot is too hot for a PU/PE or PU/Epoxy or EPS/Epoxy board?  I keep my boards stored vertically in an uncooled, detatched garage, where I also shape/glass.  Never had a problem in the past 20 years.  Some boards in bags, some in socks, some naked, some with spider webs.  However, I’ve never seen the thermometer in the garage go over 102F/39C; the garage is passively vented.  Maybe if the boards were in the sun or subjected to uneven heating…?  And nejerseysurf, I’m in PA just across the Delaware River; so I’d say we have similar summer weather.

Stored in a position that provides uneven support, will allow the board to twist or flatten.        Best solution I’ve found is to store it on a three point support system.       The reason this is so effective, is that any three points lie in the same plane, and load will be distributed evenly.      This from high school geometry.        Remember that?      Heat is a contributer to the condition, not the sole cause.      A little care in storage, will go a long way in preventing any issues.
