BoardCAD for Mac

I just got a new Mac laptop(had a PC before, new to mac), does anyone know how I can get boardcad to install and run on a Mac? Searched the archive with no luck, seems like it should be easy. Got Aku Shaper to install and run ok.

Thanks

im not sre if boardcad has been updated but the old version works well 1.0 i think and works on my mac. I use 2.0 on my pc. Maybe havard will chine in and help you out. m

If BoardCAD doesn’t have a specific Mac version, your best best is to run a version of Windows using Bootcamp and load BoardCAD into that.

Quick look at the BoardCAD forums turned up this:

Scroll to the end, looks like someone compiled a working version for 10.7

Got version 1.0 to work.

Thanks for the link lawless, the instructions on downloading and updating the java are a bit beyond my computer skills though. Couldn’t get it to work.

BoardCAD is written in Java, this means that the compiled code is platform independent.

You should install the java runtime environment to run it (just like on windows).

Then you should start it exactly the same way as starting the windows version.

Hi Kevin

I’ve just submitted a patch to the boardcad guys that fixes this (well, it fixes the issue I was having on Mac OS). Jonas has applied it to the webstart version which now works for me, so can you please try running it again from the link below:

Works!!

Thanks Paul!

I was having a problem after an automatic mac update a couple months ago. The latest mac update fixed the problem though.

Anyone have any tips on getting BoardCAD to run on an new Mac with OS 10.8.2? Installed Java 6 and then 7 but can’t get it to work.

Thanks Kevin, still can’t get it to work though. I just downloaded AKU Shaper and it’s working so I’ll mess around with that for a while. Very similar but I think I like BoardCAD better.

Hi,

unfortunately neither me nor Jonas have a mac to test boardcad on. What you can do is enable java console in the java settings (whereever you find that on a mac box) and send it to either me or Jonas to give us a clue of what’s going on.

regards,

Håvard

Check out this thread on Java vulnerability;

OSX Mountain Lion has Java disabled by default. Go to Spotlight and type in “Java Preferences” and make sure the checkbox is checked for the “Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications”.

OSX turns it off by default for Security reasons.

Worth trying to see if that will get it to run for you.
