Long time Sways lurker here. I’ll be arriving in Christchurch in just under a month to begin 3 weeks of travel around the country (belated honeymoon). As much as it pains me to say it, various circumstances (thank you, Continental Airlines) are making it pretty unreasonable to travel with my own equipment, so I’m hoping to pick up a board(s) in Christchurch that I can use for the trip and then sell in Auckland before heading home. I haven’t written off the possibility of a custom (still probably cheaper than bringing boards and at least I know it would begin the trip in one piece) and have been corresponding with Paul Barron, who seems like a great guy, but I just wanted to explore other possibilities. If I were going to shape myself a single board for the trip , it would be a 6’0 rounded pin thruster, 11 5/8 + nose, 18 ¾ widepoint, 14 3/8 tail, 2 ¼+ thick . . . not that I’m feeling particular, LOL. Anyone out there have something even in the ballpark? I’d be grateful for any suggestions, and I’d love to link up for a session if anyone is going to be around on Dec 11. Thanks so much for any help.
Aaron Surgenor is two hours up the road (Kaikoura) I believe. Exit surf are in Christchurch as well. I can’t remember who the Surftech distributor is over here but I’m pretty sure it’s either Exit or Hydrosurf (Dunedin) so they may have a rental for you.
Thanks so much, Dean. Kaikoura is definitely on my list, so I’ll try to track Aaron down before hand. I’m also going to be in Auckland on December 10 and then again after Christmas, so please let me know if you might want to catch a session witha random yankee . . .
