Boards...Surf/Ski

I went skiing a few weeks ago, nice! It was just after our last storm, clean, light, powder! OUr family has four ‘hybrid’ Snow Skate skis from the early/mid 90’s. (Picture below) They’re starting to show some wear, can’t get them anymore and we LOVE them.

So… I was thinking… I bet I could make a copy using the knowledge I’ve learned making surf boards! I have to finish the kitchen remodel and board number 4 then I’ll begin experimenting.

Question… I love to experiment… make the core out of foam? or stick with the standard wood? As you can see in the pic these skiis are molded hollow clear plastic, make it hollow? (Paul J?). They are filled, partially, with oil (red) and lead shot. Not sure if that is a marketing ploy or wether it really works, puts the weight on the tip and keeps the tails light.

Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
