sharkcountry made me this new 2lb eps timberflex (balsa/wiliwili) and recently finished it with a quad set up per Robin.
BTW paddling out that wiliwili strip down the middle really pops out under the epoxy and when wet.
He used it at courts yesterday and wasn't impressed but i took it out today with Robin's new fin design and must say the thing rocked.
I think Jay and folks really getting into quads should definitely give Robin's new quad fin design a go cause it really made this homemade beast "go".
I can't even imagine what these fins would do with Robin's special bottom in the tail to go with the fins.
Thanks Robin!
You'd never know looking at all that fin in the tails that they would work so unreal..
Definitely a convert,
and it show the importance of being open minded to trying new things..
on a side note I must like yellow for some reason as my first customer was a 1971 yellow and red hot dog machine from Isaac Tanaka and my latest a 2010 molded epoxy from Terry Chung on Kauai.
Hey Big Bro, I said it was a little stiff because I didn’t have the right fins, I didn’t say I didn’t like it. The board hauls ass, and if it was a little looser it would have been a one board quiver. If I used my set of Robin’s quads I may not have given it back to you. I have a bruise from my elbow to my wrist from yesterday. Pretty ugly man… blood thinners are a bitch.
Your other board needs to be sanded, and I need to know what fin setup you want plus I need more boxes. I think I’ll make a set of wiliwili fins for that 7-10, but just the standard shape. I already have the base layer of glass waiting. I think I gave that bag of wilwili fins you cut out back to you. I could probably use those as the middle section.
I got the deck of Kristy’s board done then caught a late afternoon session at Courts. Took out a 5-10 but I should have had an 8-0. Only a handful of us out for a while, but the tide was super high and the waves didn’t have a lot of push. Good for long boards though, only about head high on sets, not like yesterday. I was hoping sit on the inside and catch the thumpers, but it wasn’t happening in there.
I can’t even imagine what these fins would do with Robin’s special bottom in the tail to go with the fins.
Me too! I just got a board made locally specifically for Robins fins and it came back with the shapers standard bottom contours and rails, not what I asked for at all…again!
Did you push the front fins to the full 16" this time as I remember on your single fin conversion you kept them to 15 1/2?
The fronts are at 16 1/2 on Oneula’s board because it is a 7-10. I moved the cluster up 1/2".
When I used it I had 2 sets of thruster side fins. When we looked at them at Oneula’s house I had the larger set in the back. Oneula has so many fins that he can try a variety of setups. But I think we’re finding the new hammer style quads Robin makes is a great setup.
