bonzer fin settings & red x installation

Hi. Can anyone advise me on 5 fin bonzer settings for a 6’4" swallow tail bonzer. Considering using the bonzer fin set from Red X. Am thinking of using this specs I saw in the archives from which was suggested by Tom: Front side fins 10-1/4" & 15" from tail both sets toed in 1/4 inch 18 degrees cant Rear single fin 5-1/2" from tail Not sure how far from the rails should I set the base of the front fins. Should it be 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" or 1-3/8"??? Any reccommendations? Also can anyone advise on installation of Red X fin plugs without a proper red X fin plug installation kit or is there no other way? Any advise on cutting up & joining two Red X plugs to create a longer fin plug for the center fin. Will that take out too much stringer and affect the strength of the board? Cheers, Jus ; )

Jus, The front fins’ trailing edges are 1-1/2" outboard relative to the back fins not the rail contour. The rear fin is set 1-1/2" from rail. There is a half inch over lap between the leading edge of the back fins and the trailing edge of the front fins. E-mail me your fax number and I’ll fax you the template he made us. As far as alternative installations. Herb has posted a method with an O’Fish’l type jig. I can fax you our installation instructions as well. As long as you follow the instructions carefully it shouldn’t be a problem.

Hi Tom, Thanks for that very important bit of info. I wouldn’t have known if you didn’t tell me. Would be really grateful if you could fax me the template & installation instructions for Red X fins. That is if you don’t mind faxing it overseas. My fax number is (65) 6782 5498. The (65) being the country code. You can attention it to Justin Sih. Much appreciated. Cheers, Jus

I attempted to send the entire instruction set twice. Each time I got cut off at page three. So, I sent you the three most impaortant pages. The vacuum router jig is a must for production. But, anyway you want to cut a two stage rectangular groove will work. Make sure you’ve got a min. of 12 ounces glass on the deck area around the necks and 8 ounces around the box opening on the bottom. Elliptical patches can be used to achieve this. Make sure you scribe the foam from the glass around the edges of the holes. And finally, make sure you use laminating resin and milled fibers to mount the boxes. We have specialty allignment tools and gaskets made for the installation that are available through Larry Block. Hope this all makes it across to you. Tom

Hi Tom. Got your fax! Thanks so much for your help with this. Wouldn’t know what to do without your instructions. Thanks a million! Jus ; )
