After finishing off my Makita mods, covered elsewhere on the forum I finally got around to shaping a board with it.
i have a list of about 6 boards on my short list so I rolled the dice and hit it.
Bumblebee/rocket it is.
I did maybe 8 boards 20 years ago, and have wanted to get back to it for so long. Pretty happy, with it!
5’8" x 19 3/4" x 2 3/8". Balsa 6oz runners of me own construction. Maybe the mainsail too if I can be farked.
Edit: I wanted to build something a bit shorter (I ride 6’ and above) that I could get in early, rail the living shit out of and get tubed on. I’m 75kg, and she’s a bit fuller in the rails than I’m used to but the tail is fine, so…fingers crossed!
I ride this board a lot. Its a B*nzer 3 shaped by Danny Martinez. It is slightly bigger than the board you are building at 5-10 x 20 but when this dies I will be replacing it with something like the dims on your board. This kind of board can be ridden from thigh high to just OH no problem. I see you have a big 7" fin there, for me on this type of board a 6" fin is perfect.
ifallalot, I actually read you blog just before I got started. I’ve come across your Danowar multiple times on the bb and google. It looks really good, and def was part of my settling on B3 setup.
i asked some advice of Tim Stafford a while back and he said 6" too, with a narrow base. A mate has a 6"TA, so I’ll have a go and then probably make one.
Ben, hey mate hope yr scoring in Vic.
I would really love to glass this one myself, epoxy job. But I don’t think I’ve got the right place especially for the sanding. So maybe it’s off to the pros, and I’ll keep it clear and mysterious!
… hmmmm. THIS , was as dark , and contrasty , as the photo editing hardware would allow me to go , on your photo…
…is there any chance of some 'closer up ’ shots of the bonzer bottom , maybe lit from the side , to better show those concaves , please , ‘Ifallalot’ ?
I will most likely put it in for glassing with Colin’s glasser this week, but I got bogged down making the runners and I’m still not sure if I’ll have them done in time.
I wanted light and thin so I layed up 1.5mm balsa with 6oz each side. I just have to cut them out, and sand…
. That reminds me, I wanted to see if Oceanline had a place to shape occasionally. I need better lighting.
The template I have is 9.75 x 2.75". Only 1/8" or so thick and basic chamfered edge for foil. I was thinking as an alternative I could route some of my 1/4" fin panel to the right thickness, but it’s a bit wasteful…
That came out sweet! This is your first board in 20 years, you’ve got skills!
What’s the black around the finbox? Is that black resin used to set the box, or a pinline? The reason I ask is because of the square corners. Not to many routers out there that cut square corners!
