taj beaten by a pu rider… any one know of the board brand/shaper of Bede? its MT WOODGEE, a local gold coast brand who have been using std pu tech forever… mmm maybe the curse of the chop sloppy waves affected the eps core… glad to see Bede get a good result he deserves it he has been slogging away consistently for years…
Taj never even rode a “Firewire” in his early heats that I saw. He had a normal looking single stringer board. Marketing blunder??? Good opertunity for Firewire to showcase to Southern Cal their new team rider blowing up on their “new” tech. To bad he was on a “traditionaly” constructed board. Oops!
Taj might have been blowing is Firewire sponsorship, but Occy was holding up the banner!
He said that the Rusty EPS board that he surfed was the best he has had in years, especially for non-Hawaiian waves.
…yeah, because may be these boards are good for heavier and powerful surfers in average waves…
Yes, what’s up with Taj riding a PU Webber in that contest? - not even any Firewire stickers (not that that would make any difference when eveyone can see there’s a stringer down the middle) Does this mean he isn’t actually signed with FW or has he just burned them big time? He is quoted saying he was really happy with his boards for that contest! Jesus what a marketing stuff up - announce you are sponsering Taj and he doesn’t ride your product - pros and boardmakers could get away with that when everyone was riding PU and the boards all looked pretty much the same - but this is a new ball game, every pic of Taj riding something with a stringer down the middle damages Firewire.
That contest was a nightmare! I went down for a surf today and EVERY space in Sano was filled all the way down to Trail 6 (thats something like 5 miles of cars). They were bussing them in to the contest. I was riding my newest Bert inspired longboard and it was unreal. Even with the chop I had one of my best days in a long time. I think Taj made a mistake not trusting the firewire.
I hate pro surfing…the sport would be better if it went away…just my opinion…
