Both FCS and FUTURES FINS compatible box

Hi, can you help me gather all the fin box brands that make fcs and futures compatible boxes?

thanks

I know there is this brand F3, but it has no website I guess, has it?

mako The Standard system looks nice.

they don't say much as to what you would be buying. When they say a set do they mean two boxes? or three?

Its a thruster set with the fins for $25.  The fins that come with the boxes aren't half bad either.  If you go on their website you can buy individual boxes and the router jigs.  I love them.  I think they are stronger than anything else out there and they are easy to install.  I have broken several fins without damaging the boards so I know they are strong.  They are also probably the least costly system.

I only wish they came in a color other than black.

Super easy to install.  I use double sided masking tape to stick the jig to the board and router it out.  Then you undercut the glass using a tool they supply with the jig.  The jig then sets the cant and becomes a resin dam.  It couldn't be easier.

My only caution with them is to use no finer than 60 grit to grind them down after glassing.  The directions do warn of this.  I once used 80 and the heat generated swelled the box and created a gap that I could slip the edge of a razor blade down.  Luckily the gloss coat took care of the slight void.  Purely my own dumb mistake.

I want to convert an older performance Longboard with a one two set up to a four fin with center box I picked up some interesting  curved fins off of eBay 3 sets for $12  Can't beat the price.  Yesterday I made some modifications to one set of the curved fins did a cutout and re foiled the fins. The 4 box system should allow for some experimentation with the curved fins plus other assorted fins.

Thanks Mako
but they are not fcs and futures compatible, are they?

I've never tried them with futures but I believe they can be modified to take futures.  The little piece on the box between the holes that says "standard" is glued in place, not molded in.  If you popped it out I suppose futures would work so long as they had a solid base for the set screws to catch on.  Don't quote me on any of this though.  If I had some futures fins I'd experiment.

With all that being said, if I wanted Futures in my boards I'd buy futures boxes.  They seem like the best overall system if you take the added cost and added installation steps out of the picture.  Personally I like installing the fin boxes after laminating the board like fcs, probox or standard rather than under the glass.

I have been giving some thought to going to futures boxes on boards with thinner tails as it requires a shallower rout.

Hi louisJ, Probox is compatible with FCS and offeres for and aft adjustment with cant options. Future fin bases can be converted to ProBox Base but won't work back in Future Box. Our Probox Blog www.Probox-Larryretrofits.blogspot.com will show a video converting the Future Fin Base. Mahalo, Larry

Thanks probox-larry

but I am really looking for a box set that is compatible with both futures and fcs.

Good luck my friend. The length of a Future base box and then the adapting of a FCS fin will cause the box to expand and fail. That is why there are over 24 FCS compatible finsystems in the world and only 2 or 3 at the most Future compatible finsystems in the world. If you design the box for the longer base fin then the weight of the box would be more than you care to trade out for, to with stand the lateral flex of locking the FCS Fin, been there done that hard. Which is why we went the Future Fin conversion way instead. Mahalo,Larry

Larry, i really don´t understand what you mean. i like your box because of the versatility but i´m not aware of a supplier in europe. i use F3 with succes and had only 2 box failure. one hitting a rock the 2. the guy landing with his as on the fin…

i cut the future fin base to be able to move the fin forward or backward and its the most simple box to make my owen fins

Hi uzzi

where do you buy the F3s?

If you cut the base of the fin to fit the pro box the fin is no longer compatable with the futures box.  That defeats what the original poster is getting at.

Just recieved my Standerd fin boxs.  I now need to remove the old Ofishl fin box and fill the void.

**That may seem like an obvious question. Even IF you use the F3 box because it is compatible for FCS and Futures fins… the Futures have pre bent cant (tilt) degree standard of 6-1/2 degrees IN THEIR FINS while FCS (Fusion) is offered in ), 5, and 9 degrees IN THEIR BOXES. The FCS fins are standard at 90 degrees. **

**Is the F3 box a zero degree box? If so you put a Futures fin in it and you are automatically at 6.5 degrees. If you put an FCS fin in it you have 90 degrees because there is no pre  molded cant in their fins. **

Apples to oranges.

Compatibilty for receivng the fin may not be the issue: FIN CANT IS.

TRY BOTH “COMPATIBLE” FINS SYSTEM IN THE BOX - THEY WON’T RIDE ANY WAY NEAR THE SAME…

**OTOH, Pro Box has fin cant inserts for 2, 4, 6, and 8 degrees that  go into their 0 degree box. Unless F3 has something like that, the system make accept the fins but it isn’t practical to consider it as interchangeable.

Thanks deadshaper

That is really something I hadn’t think about…
let see what others say

I’m an other:

If you are a bit of a tinkerer. Then its best to get involved with probox.

With Probox you can convert your Futures rather easily( a relative term).

Still add to your FCS collection and use those.

…and get 1/2" of fore and aft movement, and with tinkering close to 1".

as was said previously the cant adjustment inserts have great utility.
