BOZ

Yes it’s “off Topic” as many things are on this site; But---- Was wondering if any of the hardcore Sways crew had ever purchased or worn a BOZ Wetsuit?? Curious about what you think of them?? Don’t delve off into personal opinions or recommendations of other wetsuits. Seeking first hand information about Boz Wetsuits of San Diego only. Don’t give a rip about who.you think makes the best suit. Just trying to get an honest revue/evaluation of Boz.

Never even heard of them. If it fits you perfectly and is a quality build go for it.

I’ve had two BOZ over the years, both 4/3 full suits. Solid, well-constructed mail order suits made in Peru, using top quality Japanese rubber. A no-frills suit, without all the marketing driven flash. Just as warm and long-lasting as a top-line US brand for about half the price. If important to you, for a 10% surcharge, you can get a custom cut suit, sized to your individual measurements, including virtually any panel/color combination, etc. Contact the rep in San Diego.

I’ll vote for “custom” - I bought my first custom wetsuit recently (not a boz), took the measurements myself according to a diagram off the website, and wow, what a difference. Fit like a glove from day one.

And for the record - wetsuits are NOT off-topic here! All things surfing related are 100% on-topic.

I’ve had several BOZ. Great suits. I recommend them.

We’ve had several and they are exactly as advertised. Solid suits at a competitive price. They used to be a fair bit cheaper some years ago but they’re still priced lower than the big brands.

I should mention that they’re cut for a stockier body type than most of the other labels (they are from Peru). Guys who are tall and skinny may find them loose.

I have had a couple of them. Good warm flexible long lasting wetsuit. Even when I could get some name brand stuff with steep shop discount I still paid a little extra for a BOZ. Good suits Harry is a good guy.

Hi Lowel -

I’ve had a couple and they were good solid suits. No zipper issues, no seam issues… and they lasted for several seasons.
I think wetsuit technology has improved in the last few years among all the brands.

never tried the wetsuits but I used to like boz skegs

I read the title wrong and thought you were asking about 8 OZ glass. Need glasses.

This is the kind of recommendation I was hoping to hear.

I may give them a try, too. I’m due for a suit. A suit typically last me about 14-18 months of year round use. They hold together, but start to get cold. So to me how long do they keep you warm? John M. ? Greg, why would you need a suit where you live? Travel? Mike

Wondering if anyone has any experience with Need Essentials? https://www.needessentialsusa.com

I will never forget a 34 F (air) winter session in TX. More than a few 50 F sessions.
Some decent swell with cold fronts – cold air & warm water clash.
With waves breaking, the water cools down mighty fast.

Yes there are others out there. Some are online or Custom only. Carapace is a Calif. manufacturer in Gardena. Custom/online. Ride Engine was born out of Kite Surfing and makes a nice surf suit. Headquartered in Washington State. Volte is a recent Aussie entry and seems to be going for it in the U.S. I’m usually looking for 5/4 Hooded. All of the manufactures I have mentioned in this thread are good alternatives to the Nine major Wetsuit brands carried at your local shop.

I was wondering about the Boz suits as well. Are they warm for waters colder than SoCal waters. Up here in CentralCoast California where the water is currently 53-55 deg.? Tired of paying $400 for an oneill & having it last 6 months. Just bought a 4/3 Hyperflex. From the minute it arrived, i knew I made a mistake. It felt thinner than a 3/2. Used it last week & froze my ass off. I guess it’s my new summer suit. Boz website is pretty useless as its mostly in spanish(?).

My most recent Boz is a 4/3 Thermoflex (basically a midrange suit for them) and on the coldest days (low 50s) in this area I was nice and warm. Their 4/3s are real 4/3s, not 3/3s with a small 4mm chest patch.

Harry told me the smoothie panels retain heat better but degrade more quickly, so I skipped the smoothie panels because cold doesn’t get THAT cold around here. Up north you might be better off trading more warmth for shorter winter use; although a worn out 4/3 still works in place of a 3/2 during the spring/fall.

Highly recommend the hooded 5/4. Very stretchy rubber. I like the horizontal chest zip over the diagonal.

Call Harry. They have more products than listed. AndbHarry is a fountain of knowledge.

They have an English ver of there website.

I surf with Harry and his crew all the time. he’s a great guy, and his wetsuits seem to hold up. I’ve never had one of his suits because they don’t fit me as well as my brand of choice… So it’s not because of quality.
