Howzit ds,I know I hould have been better at cleaning the shop but it even had a dirt floor and I would but crushed coral and spread it on top of the dirt so it would keep the dirt dust down and all the boards came out nice and clean and one person said I can't gloss with a dirt floor but when he saw my gloss work he said he was eating his words on that oneWhen I did clean it I would take everything out and just use the hose and wash the whole place down. People who came by always said they felt very comfortable thereI guess that is what happens when you are more into your craft than the shop being clean.Heck I could move a box and big ole centapede might come running out and they don't like acetone and roaches are the same way.I think the thing that got me was I never had mice or rats in there but the mud daubers would fly in all the time and then just fly out. A few of the Sway boys came and visited me and saw my shop and somebody compared it to another Sway guys shop. The cleaner the shop doesn't make a better surfboard,Ha,Ha. Aloha,Kokua

Surf magazines are frequently historically incorrect as to who started what as guys with bucks that are hungry for fame, steal from unknown shapers than give it a slick name and claim it for themselves. If you went to the trouble and expense of doing up a nice logo, it MUST be yours, right?

It ain’t the same, never will be the same, but it fits the bill for them.
If you are a bigger advertiser with a mag, then by all rights, you expect more shots in that same mag to run surfers riding your board, or running across the street with one, or on the car, or…
Heck, if that’s the way it is, you may as well go to the next step (or maybe they already have) and the conversation would go something like this:

I am doing pretty good these days except for the eating problem but I deal with problems when they arise and it's been 2 1/2 years since my cancer ordeal and I am still here o 2 erect feet. I feel sorry for my son (19) and many of the younger people today that feel the future doesn’t look bright. Yes, there are exceptions…there are always exceptions…but we had the 60’s, and it is quite reasonable to imagine that type of decade may never happen again.
My son told us he would rather have lived through our time versus his. He said his friends are aware of the crap the politicians and corporations are pulling, but many of their peers are too preoccupied with getting the latest 4G this, or the IPOD that.
We can still impart some wisdom to the younger generation, whether it be on surfboard construction and design, or to hold those they elect to be accountable for a corrupt banking system. The corporate wrong doing has hit new heights as unprecedented levels of greed produce backroom deal making among lobbyists politicos, bankers, and Wall Street.

Howzit ds, The problem is when they don't want to hear it since some of them are positive they already know it all. But a lot of us were the same way at that age. I tried to tell my oldest son what mistakes I made and why it is better not to try them but he was one who had to see for himself and he paid big time for that.The younger one listened and came out a lot better off. I think there are some shapers out there who still are old school minded, but a hell of a lot of knowledge seems to be certainly going down the gurgler and will be lost as the new must have now generation take over with the machines, computers and stuff. But I think there will always be some who break the mold, but unfortunately just not enough.
