Im building a table that is sorta like a paipo board with legs and want it to be a solid color. im using cheap pine that has knots, etc. that are proving to be difficult to color over (its a light tan...). i dont want this thing to get too heavy, so my question is: is there a compatible paint that i could prime the wood with that would solve the issue. should i possibly do a grey coat of resin? any other ideas??
didnt know of a better place to ask, sorry its not a surfboard topic.
Howzit Joel,Do you mean you want the knotts and the area around them to be the same color and that has to match the whole board? Seems to me you are going to need some good primer like that one that sounds like zizzners since it is a great primer and after a couple of coats your base color should be the same and then you can paint it any color you want. You are going to have to get the water based one and I really can't say what is going to happen when the resin or epoxy hits it. Do a test first.Aloha,Kokua
Water-based primers are either acrylic or polyurethane most of the time; Both will accept a polyester coat, no problem. Been there, done that. Most primers are opaque white and two layers should be enough to get a perfectly uniform white color that will be as good a base for any tinted resin as a white PU blank.
