Building my first board

Hey there, I've been saving up some money and I want to use it to build my own surfboard. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to get started.

Does anyone have a link or something that could give me a list of supplies I'll need? Also, how much money would it cost to go the cheapest way? I'm only 16 and don't have a ton of money to use (I'll have about $500-700 by the summer).

Thanks.

Where are You? What kind of waves? How do you want to surf?

I live in Florida, right next to Cocoa Beach. The waves are terrible, but occasionally we get good 3-4 ft. swells. I actually already have sort of an idea of what kind of board I want to make, a 6'0 quad shortboard for competitive surfing (no idea what I want the width to be yet, was thinking something around 1-1 1/2 inch).

Easiest for you might be to go to Greenlight Surf Supply. They can set up a first timer from soup to nuts (that means everything) in kit form. Check their site out. Also, by 1&1/2  you probably mean thickness. Unless you are 120-130 lbs. you might want to go thicker. Get used to riding and making a certain board first and then you can pare down the dimensions.
