Travel board builds are always amazing. Yours is no different.

How did you decide on the overall concept ?

The concept is an adaption from what I know about building model airplanes.

There are built airplanes with up to 6m wingspan in a similar technology. And you can fly loopings and rolls with them.

Just the lock is something that I realy had to think about.

I love fake stringers, they are very effective.

However HD foam doesn’t add strength on itself, did you put UD-glass or UD-carbon under it?

Can you give some more details on the centre beam and how the stringers interact with it?

Thanks for posting this, I love travel board build threads.

How will you prevent the center spine from moving around and crushing the foam?

Like Surfoils, Iove these build threads. Good going.

I know that, it is based on your posted idea  (http://www.swaylocks.com/comment/489425#comment-489425). I’ve done one layer of UD-glass under the fake stringers and on bottom additional one layer of UD carbon to add a slight spring-effect.

Here’s a scribble of the centre beam and how it interacts with the fake stringer (there is a glass-layer between every layer of foam/balsa):

This looks great, thanks for sharing the details!

I’m looking forward to the ride report.

AndiHL-

Thanks for posting your build pictures (nice foam work!) and travel board ideas. I think I understand the center tube and pockets. How are you going to ‘latch’ the two halves together? Also looking forward to the ride report…

Such great ingenuity. Hope you work it all out and get a great ride! Look forward to hearing more.

Will go to Portugal next week. Board is finished with a vintage look (some might say the finish looks just crappy :-):

Nice,

Did you tested it yet (pool surfing or whatever ?) ?

How is the tension on the metalic locks ?

no test until now, maybe Friday or Saturday.

The metallic locks have a dead center position and can handle tension us to 1000 N

Time for a test-report:

I’m happy with the board and on the whole the project was very successful. The split system works fine, is very robust and I can travel with a 6’3 boardbag.

Mission accomplished, but:

  • split system generates some kind of strange flex pattern
  • nose of the board tends to stuck into the wave while moving forward on the board

For eleminating the strange flex pattern I already have an idea (coming soon), for the nose stucking I have some ideas I’d like to discuss here:

  • changing rocker profile of the nose, more curve in first two feet of the nose (not more rocker at the tip)
  • changing nose bottom from channels to flat
  • beveled rails in the nose

I don’t want to change the 4 fin setup because the board is really fast an I like that very much.

AndiHL, where did you get the tensioning buckles?  I’ve built a couple of boards but made my own tensioning devices from delrin plastic and assorted nuts and bolts. Thanks for sharing.

All the best

Hi Greg,  I bought them here in Germany at an online-store:

https://www.diekleinewerft.de/Spannverschluss-uebertotpunktspanner-einstellbar-edelstahl-rostfrei

Don’t know if they ship international, but maybe they can tell you where to buy these parts in your country.

no one there who wants to enter into the discussion?

The channels are the problem.

What problem?

spewing i cant see any of the photo’s, they are just a little X

maybe you have to reload the page (ctrl-f5 on a windows machine). If it still doesn’t work I can send you the links to the photos.
