I got to do about 3 months of production MIG welding on the job in the 90’s with a little TIG and stick thrown in.
The coolest is watching someone good with TIG or gas welding dipping the filler rod and making uniform ripples on a weld that don’t even need chipping or sanding.
The smell of the flux off a stick electrode takes me back.
I gotta watch you do that…

I’m sure you two could talk shop for hours, he too does amazing high quality craftsman type stuff in his garage. He has had a couple VWs that he built (including paint) featured in Hot VW magazine…
