The owner is from Lousiana doesn’t surf and doesn’t give give a shit about it- and there`s alot going on, not just surfboards. what’s wrong with china?or ireland, england ,france, korea, japan? What kinda car do you drive? That whole buy american thing is very dated and ignorant.Wake up! get out of the little cube you live in! What a desperate thing to say.

I work in a little cube.

I believe the point he was making in the context of this forum is to support American shapers so that there may be a future for them. The industry situation in Australia mirrors the sentiment of the American. The point is that nearly all of the products listed would have been made in the US at one point. The fact that these are now made in Asia should be the catalyst for awareness of what can happen to an industry. Granted there will always be a market for custom only specialised customers but the decline in manufacture away from custom, wholesale and export comes only at the expense of employees and history. Most of us are in this industry to be closer to what we love, to have a job related to our passions. Don’t let Asian producing middlemen take that away from us or the grommets at the beach that just like you want to join this industry to cling to what little soul remains in it. God knows there’s not too much in the rag end of this business. http://www.pipedreamsurfboards.com

Beat it ya’ shabby ass Geisha wannabe.Un-American d,d,d,d,d,d,d,dog belly licker. You’d fit in n’ China.

An’ I drive a Ford ya’,mangie hippie.

OR BETTER YET MAKE IT YOURSELF… Remember, Swaylocks is about surfboard MAKING, not surfboard BUYING.

bubba u tabake chewing redneck hick bud swiling pot bellied longboard riding ignorant!!! but–kinda funny guy[smile]

He’s got a point. Buy American when you can. But if you want chopsticks, buy Chinese. They probably make better chopsticks and since they are Chinese in origin, why not? Most Fords are manufactured in Mexico, Canada and in the USA. Which is yours? My Honda Civic was assembled in the USA, but my Ford Explorer was not. American cars aren’t, and Foreign cars aren’t. But my new surfboard is 100% American, as is my wetsuit: Aleeda.

yea whatever we as americans are capitalist and are free to buy from free enterprise. What are you kidding me? This is not russia buy what you want. You would have a hard time figuring out what is made in american soil any way.Buy your american wetsuit made of japanese rubber and so on and so on.Forget the petty argument and join the melting pot and MMMMMMMMMelt baby melt!!!Get some fresh air it’s a BIG world out there and we are all one whether you like it or not.Have fun and smile it’s all the same in the end anyway hahahahahaha

CSI, Whats wrong with China? Besides Killing over thirty million of their own people over the last seventy five years, forcing abortion on mothers with females or more than one child, being communist, being communist, Oh did I mention being communist and our enemies, aggresivly trying to take over many American businesses that have to do with our national defense. The list on their utter lack of any form of human rights could go on. I have to ask you who made the ignorant statement? BTW. I was at the tradeshow and boardworks and Surftech are part of the problem of the surf industry not the solution. If it’s all about Money, then why choose to be in the surf inustry? There are easier ways, but then again the surfboard buying public are the biggest suckers in the consumer world. They believe anything printed in a magazine penned on a sixth grade level. Sames goes for the silly so called surf clothing companies. What a joke. Surf clothing.

My last real pair a real American Levis bought off the shelf yesterday, or “the days that are no more”, or Longfellow “the irrevocable Past”, or Mr.Shakespeare “the dark backward and abysm of time” or “donkeys years ago” or of yore, of old, time out of mind… …the Ford with real chromed parts, outside, warmin’ up ready to check surf …no need to lock the front door on yer way out all you at the Bar Swaylock’s, musing on past hurts, but don’t stop recollectin’, America always came through in “the great world of light that lies behind all human destinies” Longfellow. thanks gentlemin fer yer attention. Slim Railpickens

yea the surf business is a joke --always has been. It’s a fashion business isn’t it?Yes i buy custom boards and always pay retail i have no problem with it,kinda enjoy putting my money in it.I just can’t swallow all the bad talking negative ,anti this anti that.To be honest I don’t care about politics and didn’t think this is a_ political forum anyway --enough said.

“Longboard riding” as part of an insult?? Talk about UNAmerican!! Longboards are to surfing what Thomas Jefferson was to the founding of our country. That’s low mista…if I had a rubba hose I’d!

call me on your cell phone.

I agree. It’s the free enterprise competitive system we all live in that allows all of us the privelage to buy whatever products we desire. It also allows each of us to make and sell our products in a free system without government mandates relating to what we may produce. I don’t fret much either about the foreign surfboards. When the US auto makers almost lost their entire industry in the 80s to Japan, it was that very threat that made them buckle down, and get back to producing what Americans wanted…quality at a good price. I say the foreign pop-out boards are just an opportunity for us to keep on it, pressing on toward making the best, most beautiful, functional, handmade surfboards in the world. This very forum is designed for just that - for us to work together, helping one another, seeking perfection in our endeavors. It’s all about pride in work. Everything else will take care of itself! Now, let’s get back to work eh?

THE DECLINE OF THE AMERICAN SHAPER STARTED LONG AGO! its ashame, but thats how it is! the surf shop owners are buisiness men and want to make a margin! can you blame them? i dont agree with it myself, but i’m tired of people crying about how bad it is!, the ball is already rolling! if you want the nice things in life then pick a new buisiness! if you want to srape by and surf every day then stay where you are!

Of course as workers go Americans want more money and more benifits and want to work less and complain more. Our jobs are going overseas partly because of the sorry state of the american worker and unions.

Atom Tan wrote: “Of course as workers go Americans want more money and more benifits and want to work less and complain more. I think that due to the wealth we’ve gained through the industrial revolution, we’ve become to expensive to support. Everyone wants to have a SUV, big house, 32(+)” widescreen TV, DVD player, etc. We’re consumers and we want more. To get more we need to be payed more. The Chinese farmer who’ve gotten by with a bowl of rice for himself and his family is a very economical worker, he doesn’t need a SUV, Widescreen TV, etc. to get by. His life is improved heaps by the few dollars he’s paid. Only thing that’s bad about the Chineese worker taking over is the fact that the big corp. get’s a huge profit without the same regard for health issues and working hours for the Chineese workers. With the attitude of the American for buying ‘homeland’ products, I will do my share. I’ll buy my ‘homeland’ made products first, then European made, then Chineese made. After all, China is closer than the US. regards, Håvard PS. if you don’t get the sarkasm in the last paragraph, go f**k yourself. Now over to what really matters which is what this forum is all about.

Put it in discussion, not design forum. Move on, grow up. Go catch a few waves and calm down a bit.
