HI, When going to a cutting centre you need to see what type of machine they are running . most disk machines (as I have ) are limited to the size of the disk .So detailed channels will not be cut as the disk just does not fit in that small area (I do them by hand , I could put on a router attachment but I find the time would not warrant the effort for one board).
On Blank curves design a deck line that suits and send it the the foam company most will help.
dgs01,
Thanks. I appreciate your useful input — seriously.
I am/was aware of this.
At this point, I actually know the specific router bit that makes the cleanest channel cut.
But Jim (jrandy here at Sways) is the person who successfully used my design data to create accurate and precise CAD files for CNC cutting. It was Jim’s CAD files that Thomas Vilmin at Shape3D converted to Shape3D cutting files.
Jim is also the first person to successfully CNC cut my Coanda Channel as a “cartridge” in his home shop.
Charlie (bb30) built/hand-shaped the first prototype Coanda Channel Surfcraft in Hawaii, with paulownia and FG skins using Jim’s CNC shaped channel “cartridge.”
With Jim’s CAD work and cutting input, I have come a long way with this channel concept since then.
the dyslexic agnostic who is also an agnostic awake read this whole thread, there is a dog,and he shapes a perfect board every time with a keyhole saw ,sureform,a block and two sheets o a-o sand paper. hey kid whats a boot? and where do you go when you take off behind the peak?.. peek? AH BU.
any body swim with a slide rule to measure a lap?
I think Stoneburner is correct. Lots of shaping machine shops end up with bad cuts because the blank wasn’t setup on the machine perfectly. If the blank doesn’t have the right dimensions, they cant cut what you want. Most places will tell you that right away.
Shark— That’s right. If you send a file to a cutter who you haven’t worked previously with, your first question should be; What blank will you be using to make this cut? If you have had this file cut before you should know what blank was used in the past. Every hand shaper (even those with no CNC experience)should know that you usually can’t get the same board out of two different blanks. Better to ask in advance. Saves the cutter from throwing mis-shaped blanks in the dumpster and guarantees you will get a properly shaped blank.
