Howzit eddie, Cabo in August is really hot so you’ll want a place with AC. You can reserve a rental car at the airport, not sure of costs these days but it used to be around $35 a day for a VW bug or about $70 a day for a van. Everything is cheaper in San Jose Del Cabo But I found a place in Cabo in 94" named Club Cabo that had reasonable prices. Another thing to consider is August is it is hurricaine season and Cabo can get hit pretty bad, but they can make for some great surf. Had one hit while I was there in Aug. 94’ and the Tule river mouth(usually dry) was insane with 8 to 10 foot surf one day and flat the next. Also the east cape has lots of surf but the road had really bad wash board. I’d pass on staying in Cabo unless you want to surf the Pacific side of the tip, Cabo it self doesn’t get that good of surf and ther’s more in the San Jose area. I have done mexico since 64’ and when I go I like to spend at least 2 to 4 months there at a time. There’s so much to explore so I always drive down and take my time. One trip I spent 2 1/2 months at Scorpian Bay, that was a great trip. Aloha, Kokua

A really easy trip can be had by flying Aero Cal. or Mexicana usually less than $250 round trip out of LAX. I 've gotten flights for less than $200 in July and August. Stay in San Jose @ the Fiesta. Great hotel, nice rooms with ac that’ll freeze you out. Second choice would be El Posado also in San Jose. But their ac’s suck. Do Cabo San Lucas only if you’re interested In a Time Share tour or a night of giggling marlins(a big time tequila drunk). The surf is in San Jose. Zippers,The Rock and Old Mans. You can take a cab to Zippers reataurant(good eats) and that puts you right in front of these three spots. Have a margarita and some ceviche after your surf and the guys at Zippers will call you a cab to return to the Fiesta. I’ve done this almost evey year since the early 90’s. It is HOT, bring sunscreen, buy a hat. The Fiesta is all-inclusive. Try a few travel agents or call them direct. I have seen the price range from a low $90 to high $120. Room, two meals a day, drinks, cervesa and a poolside snack bar included. Car rentals I’m not familar with, but I think the info Kokua gave you about that is till pretty much the same. It’s hotter than hell, but I have always got surf right in San Jose. If you do the Pacific side there are some great spots out towards Todo Santo. If you do the East Cape try 9 Palms. Gotta be a big south or hurricane for those spots out there. August is the off-season not that crowed. McDing

Thanks for the tips guys. I am on the East Coast and found airfare to Cabo for $309, too good to pass up and it has been on the “go to” list for awhile. Will check into the recommendations.

Mahalo all,

Howzit eddie, Mcding called it with the Fiesta, When i was there, some of my friends flew in and stayed there. It wasn’t all inclusive then and the rooms ran about $55,but that was 10 years ago. Have a travel agent see what they can do for accomodations, a package deal can be a lot cheaper. I stayed at the El Presidente in 92’ and we found out that if accomodations were booked thru a package it would’ve cost us about 30% less. Buenas suerte. Aloha, Kokua

Yep!----You could still get rooms for $55 right up until they went all-inclusive in '98 or so. They would charge you $75 the first couple of days and then if you were staying longer drop it to $55. The food’s decent at the Fiesta so that cuts cost. San Jose is a nice little town, with an el centro and more like a traditional Mexican town. If you bring someone the costs go down even more. If you’re single be on the lookout for flight attendants at poolside. Which is where you’ll be during the heat of the day. Here’s a tip, learn a little spanish like; Mas cervesa, por favor. McDing

Howzit McDing, Spanish, I was born and raised in South East L.A. so I learned a fair share growing up. What’s funny is sometimes I mix Spanish with Hawaiian and that can get some strange reactions down south. Aloha, Kokua
