Hello,
I don’t want to do gloss. There’s enough resin on this board. Can I apply polishing compound to the sand coat and buff it out? Do I need to scuff it with 600 grit first? Can I leave it as-is??? The finished sand coat is as glossy as I would want it.
if yes, what kind of compound should I use?
thanks.

Epoxy or PE resin? Regardless, sure, you can polish the hot/sanding coat as long as you have no glass weave showing. Use the same polishing techniques you use on a normal gloss coat; just go lighter in more more corse grits of sandpaper. You don’t want to go too deep. PE resin will polish out better than Epoxy. And I would absolutely seal an Epoxy hot coat with acrylic sealer (e.g. acrylic concrete sealer) and perhaps even a PE hot coat.
