Can you check two boards for me?

Hi Everybody,

I want to build a Board for a friend (first time that I don’t shape for myself) and this is what I come up with so far. I used the APS 3000 for the first time too.

I would be cool if you could check 'em and give me an opinon. He is 165 lb and a beginner/intermediate.

One has the widepoint in front of center (kinda the outline he likes) and one with wide point behind center (to give him the other option).

I read that the max thickness should be coordinated with the widepoint to have a nice balanced board. Is that the case or could you actually have the widepoint in front of center, but the max thickness behind center to have a lot of flotation in the back??

Howzit euro, Would look at the boards but I refuse to download from unknown sources and in the past there has been a case or 2 where viruses were unleashed here unknowingly. Can you just put them up as an attachment. Aloha,Kokua

What, PDFs? Contain a virus (worm)??

Unlikely!

Believe me Doug, it is possible…

Howzit doug, Click the attachment and read the writing at the top of the download box, it says it all. Aloha,Kokua

Aw crap…do I have HIV now or staph or something?

PDFs are not an executable format.

I like the first version, but would make the outline template very slightly concave in the last foot…seems like all good boards (guns excepted) are a little concave in template behind the front fins…I think Bert or Loehr called it an S-tail…

Then I went and looked at Orbelian’s book Essential Surfing which has maybe 2 dozen board specs from the early 80s…every last shortboard has an S tail template - slightly narrower behind the fins…

Also, rear rocker a little high for having the WP forward (maybe drop 1/4"), front rocker a little low, maybe add 1/2".

hth.

A PDF contain a virus/worm? You guys are referring to generic “download messages” I think.

Unlikely - and I can vouch for the ones attached above

Blakestah,

You are correct. PDF isn’t executable and doesnt contain a macro language. So it cant be infected easily.

Take it form someone who works in IT, used to see dozens of virus infections in a day and submitted a 30 page document on virus analysis for his major tertiary final.

-doug

Nevermind PDF, the boy just wants to know about his boards projects.

LOL! Agreed, Lob!

Unfortunately I’m not really in a position to help directly with that. What little I really know about board design applies more to longboards. I’ll soon be asking a similar question about an 8’6"! Just give me a few days.

-doug

I can’t really help either, I like boards under 7’ and over 9’…

In betwin, I can’t understand what happens unless it’s a gun or semi gun.

Any wai, the outline I like most is the first one just because my eyes “understand” it better. It doesn’t mean it’s a better outline.

To Euro, go for the one your friend prefers.

I’ve noticed that a board you already love is a board you already know how to surf.

Love at first sight is really important as far as boards desing is concerned.

You can make a good board out of any template, the rails, bottom contour, volumes, fin placement (an kind) make the board more than the outline.

So, if he like the first one, shpae that one for him. Let him be there as you shape if you can stand having a lurker in your shaping bay.

And you’ll see, that board wil be very special to him and to you.

Strong experience for both, I promess.

Thanks for the kind words Lob, I´m super excited for this project! Talking about Rails, Volume etc. is the Railshape ok or would you recommend something else? And does the thickest point of the Board have to be where the widepoint is or could I move that back a little?

Fins are also a question, my friend would like FCS normal Thruster Set Up, but I´m not sure if that´s appropriate for this board, should I recommend him single fin/finbox?

Thanks to Blakestah for your input! Good to know, since I wasn´t 100% sure about the Rocker Line either!

Sorry Kokua, I have no clue how to attach stuff differently, since this was also a first time! I didn´t even thought about that kind of stuff, when I checked attachments out here on Swaylocks!

I love Swaylocks, you guys are awesome!

P.S. Did anyone of you ever get in Trouble for swaylocking at work? (I guess that should be a new thread, haha!)

Gents

Sorry to say Hicksy is right, it is possible but there have been very few instances of such occurances

One example would be

VBS.PeachyPDF@mm

I would be more worried about an executable, PIF, bat, com hiding behind a dodgy URL mask. AKA Phishing.

Simon

OK,ok, here they are…

Forward:

Back:

I, personally, like it forward.

Oh! Thank you very, very much Neira! Pretty cool that you did that for me!

Swaylock’s: uniting europeans where Europe failed…

I said “it cant be infected easily”, not impossible

Still rather unlikely (PDF format isn’t that static).

Executables will still be the main infection vector.

Anyway, I ain’t gonna get caught up in a lot more of this  More interested in the board related discussion.

Regards,

-doug
