I just started surfing and bought my own surfboard. The price/ condition was very good compared with the others I saw. I kind of researched about it on the internet, but there was little information. It is a long board 98" Channin.
…at some point some repair man painted it onto the outer shell, included fins to try to hide some patches and brownish spots to sell the board to some newbie.
That board was built in 1998. It was shaped by Hank Byzak off a CNC’ed blank of his design. That sticker is marketing BS. The board was glassed with E glass not S-glass. The CNC machine that cut the blank never used a laser to scan the shape.
I bought it for $120 dollars. Is worth to repair? or should i just keep using it the way it is until it’s totally useless? and then of course, get a better one.
120 is a bit much, considering that the spray paint on the bottom is probably hiding some ugly bits. Fix any open dings that might suck water, and ride it. It’s OK for a beginner board, I guess. You could have done worse, for sure.
I live in the Northeast Coast of the Dominican Republic and I did not find many long boards here; people whom come here to surfing mostly use shortboard. I find 7’ or a 6’ but never long than 8’ until i found the Chanin.
