Yes, I have done that before and it worked well. I actually do not use Dingleberries, rather the PC Marine epoxy stick- available in just about any hardware store, seems to be the same stuff as dingleberries, less $, and it is white in color. Two tips: you have to work the stuff into the foam a bit to get a good bond (make sure the ding/hole/surface is free of loose bits of foam, dust, sand residue, etc and then apply some pressure to do this), and then you can use a small amount of water to smooth out the surface before it sets-off- just splash your fingers with tapwater and then use the moisture to smooth the putty.
