Can you use gloss resin over spray paint?

I recently sprayed some gray and red Krylon paint over the nose of my longboard after hotcoating it.  I then sealed the paint with a few coats of an automotive grade clear coat.  Can I use poly gloss resin over the whole board or will it just eat away at the spray paint?  Thanks!

Providing that the Krylon and the automotive grade clear coat are both acrylics and a matte finish, you can gloss over it. If they are solvent based, you’re looking for trouble.

Krylon is a brand of paint not a type of paint. In California your standard "Krylon" is solvent based. People on Swaylock's tell me you can buy water based Krylon. You need to read the fine print on the label.

"Automotive grade clear coat" ...danger,danger...red lights flashing....

Rattle can from the Auto parts store? Lacquer? Polyurethane? Acrylic Polyurethane? or maybe the new water based stuff used by some here in California........

Most likely you have acetone based spray paint. The poly resin will eat the paint. If you have quality automotive clear coat you have no need for a resin gloss.........

Cleanlines has a nice “how to” on glossing over solvent based paint in this thread:

In my experience, if the gloss reacts with what’s painted underneath it, the best thing to do is squeegee the gloss off before it kicks.

This will leave a thin barrier film of resin on the surface that seals it. Light sand it and then gloss again.

Just checked the paint cans.  The red and gray Krylon cans just say “Indoor/Outdoor Gloss Paint” but nothing else.  The automotive clear coat is a Duplicolor and is an acrylic enamel.  Would the clear seal the colors below so I could still put a poly gloss coat over it?  I’m probably going to test it first by painting a random piece of plastic, clear coating it, then trying a small batch of poly to see if it works.  That’s for all of your advice and the Clean Lines link was great.  I have his glassing video which is awesome.

Howzit hanlon, I know that Krylon Clear comes in Matt or Gloss so the Gloss might be the right way to go but ask the the seller before buying it is the best thing to do.I can say that enamel is a softer paint than acrylic and if you can find a lacquer color that might be the better way to go. I have shot gloss over acrylic and had no problems
