This begins my “Journey of a Quad.” Ever since Oldy’s thread, i have wanted to make it happen. dreams->existence.
From death comes rebirth. My goal is to reshape an old funshape into a “skinned fish”. I have some 1/8" H80 and 1/2" H60, and have some sample rolls of Soric on the way.
Probably looking to bag the h80 to deck, with 1" H60 rails and leave bottom as glass-only. If the soric is wide enough i may consider that on deck, and h80 on bottom.
Question: Anyone here use both of the Sorics? I have both 3mm XF & SF on the way… and haven’t used either. Looking to bag it, then hand layup last 4 oz.
sandwich ingredient:
Deck
4oz E
Soric or Dcell
4oz E
old ugly clark blank, Am i better off using 1lb EPS and throwing this memoir away?
2 x 4oz E
heres the medium, not pretty:
but finally got it skinned, and its not too bad:
pretty thin, just under 2", but i figure ill be adding about 1/4" in the build. pretty floppy with stringer.
got some fins foiled out. looking to glass those tonight. made from 9-ply baltic birch (ithink) from the local “Michaels”:
special thanks to Bert’s thread on the fin layup .And even more thanks to KEEN, who hooked it up with the all the roving!
campbell, I bagged on some of the soric xf onto the deck of an experiment board early last year. It’s pretty cool stuff, just really heavy. I got a few yards from fiberglass fla to test it out. You can definitely beat the deck of that board with a hammer. It was so cool to freak people out with that one. They’d ask what it was, and I’d seriously bang on it with a hammer for them. Good luck with your project. I’d be stoked to find out where you scored the 1/8" H80, down there in town???
My sample of Soric showed up today. Quite a deal… got a roll each of XF3 and SF, about 5 yds per roll. Might actually see if i can get my hands on the 2mm, as it “drinks” 30% less resin.
First things first, lay up some samples and see what happens…
