Capping an FCSII Box

I’m really not a fan of this fin system but my son gets a team/employee deal with a board maker now that doesn’t make it worth me building his boards…and kids being kids he wants to ride what the cool kids are riding.  Never the less.  First board to come home with this system and its second session it comes home with a damaged box.  Board is very lightly glassed with 4oz S glass.  Thoughts on grinding out the fractured glass and capping this and the rest of the boxes for safety sake.  The rest of the box is strong.  I see no evidence on this board that football patches were used.  I really think this board is just a single layer of S over the boxes.  Will adding a layer of 4oz after the fact interfear with the mechanism holding the fins in place due to the added 1/16th of an inch of glass?

Go back to dads boards! Shiny isn’t better lol

I’ve added a whole tail patch to a board once I didn’t notice it but it was a good amount of work to make it look right.

Just wrapped up fixing it.  Sure enough it was a bad install.  Single layer of glass and resin ritch.  I realize its a comp board but they really ought to have football patches over the boxes.  I ground back a perimiter and filled with glass fibers and strips of cloth then capped the box and the repair with 2 oz cloth.  Should be stronger than new now.  Repair is only slightly visible.  Have I mentioned how not a fan I am of FCSII?

I’ve lost a fin out of one of those, didn’t hit anything.  FCS, after receiving many photos of the box and the tiny data imprinted inside, sent me a replacement fin.  I now use screws with them.
