Howzit foil, Actually I think it's a picture of Titus Kinimaka, it does resemble Terry but after looking real good I'd say it's Titus. To bad the picture isn't bigger, I've known both for over 30 years.Aloha,Kokua
Do you know “Mango Manny” or Manny Carafino?
Howzit foil, I'm real bad with names but I know 2 people with Mango names. One is named Mango Joe and the other is a local boy who just goes by Mango who works for the Dept. of Health. Where on Kauai does he live,I'm in Haena. Aloha,Kokua
good stuff , ‘Foily’ !
thanks for posting that …fascinating to have someone here MAKING them …I’ve always wanted to ask a few questions about them …hope you don’t mind ? ["uh oh " , eyeroll eyeroll goes two hundred people]
QUESTIONS …
…can you please explain what the first time on one is like …HOW do you master the things ? how does it feel the first time you are towed on one of them ?
are they EXTREMELY sensitive to small degrees of weighting / leaning ?
at what kind of speed do they lift out of the water ?
how much do they weigh ?
are they foam or wood core ?
how sharp is the metal on the "foil " ? how do you shape the foil? [or…how do you foil the shape?!]
I’d be really curious to try one , but would be scared that my twig-thin ankles would snap like …well…a twig , in those boots !
"… not TOO many questions eh ? ‘chip’ "
I know now he lives in Bali but he has surfed with Laird at Jaws

The first time is almost unexplainable but Ill try, starting out is a little difficult but in a few hours its no proplem. Once you get up youll start going up and down up and down untill you learn how to even it out. Once you get to about 17 MPH its like you are floating on a cloud. It can be sensitive but once you get the hang of it its just like wakeboarding exept no wake. The entire board is made out of Carbon Fiber all the way to the core so it only weighs 32 pounds there is no metal to cut you. As of now we are using snowboard bindings which are made to break before your ankles break. But we are coming out with a new bootless binding which is just like a wakeboard binding.
…thanks for that …

I wasn’t sure …do you mean it is SOLID carbon fibre …no foam or wood core at all ?
cheers !

SOLID CARBON FIBER!!!
NOTHING ELSE

Why do you make them out of solid carbon?
surely there is scope to use a corecell type of material for the internals of the board or have I read your post wrong?
Howzit?!? I’ve heard that some of our “Strapped” friends on Maui have been using carbon fiber foils. Must be a big improvement over metal. I have heard that the things are pretty expensive, but so are the metal ones. My one friend who’s a ski nut has got a one piece machined one, and the price was pretty huge. I’ve built a few decks out of tow board foam, using 5-stringer blanks to keep the twist at bay. I had to glass them duro to stand up to the knocks they get from the ski. The things came out pretty heavy when fully assembled. Did you see the “Nihi Warrior” movie. Was pretty nuts in the opening scene where Titus went flying past the canoe paddlers! That board was a wakeboard deck. Since then I’ve made the foam ones. I guess it’s pretty essential to have some floatation in the things to keep the whole rig from sinking when you slow down! Nihi is my bro and my top team guy. If we could get one over here, he could test it out in some large waves. Maybe try to contact me about that. Aloha…RH
ya the price is a little steep but well worth it in the long run.
They cost is normally $1899 + s/h and that comes with the bootless
bindings and the travel case but if you are right there in Kuai I can give it to
you for $1500 + s/h. I have not seen that movie but sounds good Ill see if I can find it.
I am going to try to get over there come big wave season (depending on how business is)
to do so foiling and that would be a great time to let your bro ride it but if not I
have people on Maui that might be able to link up. Aloha…Foiltheworld
