Yesterday Nov 8 a 39 year old man named Nolan McSkimming from Carlsbad Ca had a heart attack and drowned at Tunnels. Any of you guys from that area know him. Aloha,Kokua
Don’t recognize the name – 39 years old and having a heart attack?
That’s too young. My condolences to his family.
He was 31.
11/8/2007 - Visitor drowns on North Shore - H‘ENA – A 31-year-old visitor was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital today. Nolan McSkimming from Carlsbad, CA was surfing on the North Shore in an area called “Dump Trucks” near Tunnels Beach this morning. At around 11:15 am, McSkimming signaled a lifeguard in the area, indicating that he was in distress. The lifeguard paddled to McSkimming, placed him on his board, and brought him to shore. On the way in, he noticed that McSkimming lost consciousness. The lifeguard began performing CPR on the victim until emergency medical technicians and firefighters from the Hanalei fire station arrived at the scene and took over. McSkimming was taken to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Condolances to all who knew him. He was from South Africa but had moved to the San Diego area. Tripper

Not these days.
A little over a year ago I had a heart attack at age 53.
One of my cardio specialists said, “Don’t feel bad, we see lots of men who appear to be in excellent condition, but are dying at only 30+ years old…” Most frequently caused by a combination of high stress living, poor diet, the wrong exercise.
Take good care

Aloha Kokua,
No worries wasn’t really trying to nit pick your post. Just wanted to make sure that if anyone new him in the mainland that there was no mistake as to who he was.
I was there and it was tragic to see his wife with their little baby having to watch the whole thing go bad. I hope that if anyone knew him or his wife they can give them all the help they can, they are going to need it.
Aloha
Howzit DMP, So you were out when it happened, always tragic to see these things happen. I was working at a house on the beach on back side of the reef when it happened so we heard the EMT van and then one of our workers went to see what was happening and came back and told us about it. I have had to save a few people who have gotten caught in the rip on the back side of the reef. Aloha,Kokua
Jeez,
I was in Hanalei on the 8th and it was flat. Was he really surfing?
Howzit monkeyshines, Tunnels reef is far enough out that it picks up east swells that don't get into the Bay and yes there were waves that day there. Aloha,Kokua
